Job description

The K9Edge, the North Shore’s PREMIER Daycare, Boarding and Training Center, is hiring kennel technicians responsible for dog care and facility cleanliness. Your focus is to ensure that all daycare and boarding dogs are safe, exercised, clean, happy and healthy.

The position is part-time.This is not a summer position. Early and late shifts are 4, 6, and 8 hours in duration. Starting time is at 6am. Closing is at 8pm. Compensation is based on experience and performance during training period.

Experience

  • At LEAST one year of relevant experience in a similar environment
  • Must be able to handle walking dogs on leash
  • Ability to handle large breeds and working dogs a plus
  • Dog training experience a plus

Responsibilities and Duties including but not limited to:

Dog Handling and Care

  • Play with, exercise, and monitor dog groups and solo dogs of all breed types.
  • Leash walk dogs to kennel runs, rest areas, play areas, relief areas
  • Feed, provide water and turnout dogs per instructions and schedule.
  • Prepare food and meds for each dog per instructions
  • Monitor and report any behavior/health concerns to a supervisor.
  • Assist trainers in group, private, daycare & train and board & train classes

Cleaning

  • Clean and disinfect kennels, play and rest areas, service and relief areas, indoor and outdoor
  • Wash, rinse and dry food bowls and water buckets
  • Wash, dry and fold laundry
  • Restock dog food and treats
  • Remove trash to dumpster
  • Inspect dog toys, equipment and service areas for adjustment and/or damage
  • Notify supervisor of any facility maintenance issues

Record Keeping

  • Document special care instructions from clients for daycare and boarding dog
  • Document play, feeding and turnout times
  • Document special diets, special requirements and medications
  • Some front desk duties e.g., phone calls, scheduling clients, taking payments

General Maintenance

  • Inspect service areas and equipment for adjustment and/or damage
  • Notify supervisor of any facility maintenance issues

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to lift to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch and reach
  • Must be able to push/pull equipment
  • Must be able to work in an environment with exposure to disinfectant/sanitation solutions, animal dander and secretions
  • Must have a valid driver's license and/or reliable transportation and live locally
  • Must be dependable and reliable. If you are late for shifts, call out last-minute and/or frequently, and addicted to your phone, this job is not for you.
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and some holidays (not every holiday) when we are at capacity
