Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

Full-time position at our clinic located at Kuakini Medical Center. The facility provides Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) for patients with indications for routine, urgent, and emergent hyperbaric oxygen. Opportunities available to expand dive medicine, wound care, research, and teaching. The clinic treats diving injuries throughout the Hawaiian Islands with our 3 multiplace chambers equipped with mixed gas capabilities. Requires strong professional communication and coordination, with personnel oversight and management skills.


ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS

  • Provides medical supervision of chamber treatments for diving disorders and for non-diving related HBO therapy, including critically ill emergent cases.
  • When assigned to on-call coverage must be available to be onsite within 30 minutes of notification.
  • Provides wound care oversight, including, where appropriate, limited sharp debridement, management of negative pressure wound therapy, and other advanced wound care techniques.
  • Participates in medical training programs. Training programs may include in-house staff training, UHMS Fellowship rotations, and occasional University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine students, residents and allied health professional trainees.
  • Other miscellaneous duties may include: participating in on-going HTC research projects; providing medical advice to divers and the dive community; performing medical consultations and referrals
  • Complies with all legal requirements and company policies.
  • Have a working knowledge of all applicable hyperbaric safety codes and maintain the system in compliance with Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine Society (UHMS) accreditation standards.
  • Participates in HTC training and safety drills.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

HOURS: Full Time & Part-time opportunities available, training required


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education/Training/Experience

Minimum:

  • Medical Degree from an accredited School of Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain an unrestricted Medical License in the State of Hawaii
  • American Board of Medical Specialties board eligibility/certification and continued maintenance of certification, as applicable, after completion of residency training in a relevant primary medical specialty.
  • Completion of basic Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS) approved introductory course in Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain credentialing in good standing with Hawaii Pacific Health (necessary for EHR access).
  • Clinical affiliate appointment (i.e., non-compensated faculty) or faculty appointment in good standing with the John A. Burns School of Medicine
  • Current certification for Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) - Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • At least 2 years of patient care experience, including management of emergent and/or critically ill patients
  • Experience supervising allied health care personnel

Preferred:

  • Board Eligible and/or Board Certified in Hyperbaric and Dive Medicine or Completion of UHMS Program for Advanced Training in Hyperbaric Medicine certification
  • Completion of UHMS Physician Training in Dive Medicine or equivalent training/experience in dive medicine.
  • Completion of UHMS Medical Examiner of Divers Course
  • One year or greater experience in Undersea & Hyperbaric Medicine alone or in combination with relevant hospital or operational activities.
  • Experience working with multiplace hyperbaric chambers
  • Greater than 1 year of Dive Medicine experience
  • 1 year or greater Emergency Department or Critical Care Unit experience

Skills Knowledge

Minimum:

  • Evidence of effective team building and interpersonal skills to interact with the staff, patients and their families, general public and professional colleagues.

Preferred:

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS).
