What Are Jobs That Use Kotlin?

Kotlin is a programming language that is an alternative to Java. Kotlin is a popular option for people who develop applications and software for the Android mobile operating system. Your duties as a Kotlin developer include writing code for applications, testing your designs, and debugging the code. Some programmers who use Kotlin also use Java, Objective-C, and Swift to create apps and programs for different operating systems and platforms. Software engineers plan and oversee the entire development cycle for Kotlin programming projects using methodologies like Scrum and Agile. You can either develop apps for a company or independently.

What types of projects do Kotlin developers typically work on, and how do they collaborate with other team members?

Kotlin developers often work on building Android mobile applications, server-side applications, or even web development projects using frameworks like Ktor. Collaboration is key, as Kotlin developers regularly interact with UI/UX designers, backend engineers, QA testers, and project managers to ensure seamless integration and high-quality deliverables. Daily responsibilities might include writing clean, maintainable code, participating in code reviews, and attending agile stand-up meetings. Effective communication and teamwork are essential, especially when coordinating cross-functional tasks or integrating with legacy Java codebases.

What are Kotlin Developers?

Kotlin Developers are software engineers who specialize in writing applications using the Kotlin programming language. Kotlin is widely used for Android app development, but it can also be utilized for backend, web, and multiplatform projects. Kotlin Developers are responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining codebases, often working collaboratively with other developers, designers, and stakeholders. They leverage Kotlin's concise syntax and safety features to create robust and efficient applications.

  • Experience with cloud-native development on AWS (e.g., EC2, S3, Lambda) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) highly preferred.

  • Proficiency with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, including performance tuning and data modeling highly preferred.

  • Ability to balance technical, analytical, and product considerations in solution design highly preferred.

  • Exposure to Okta (IAM), Grafana (monitoring / observability); Geocoding API preferred.
