Our firm is recruiting on behalf of a leading Fortune 50 retail and technology organization that serves millions of customers through innovative digital commerce, financial services, and omnichannel experiences. The company is investing in modern payment and transaction platforms that power secure, scalable, and high-volume operations across its enterprise ecosystem.
We are seeking a highly skilled Kotlin Backend Engineer to design, develop, and support scalable backend services for a mission-critical financial platform. This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy solving complex distributed systems challenges, building modern APIs, processing large-scale data workloads, and driving high-performance application development in a collaborative Agile environment.

Job Description
As a Kotlin Backend Engineer, you will play a key role in developing and maintaining backend services supporting a payment and transaction platform ecosystem, including API services, file processing systems, real-time event processing, and secure file transfer capabilities.
Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain production-grade backend services and applications.
  • Build and support scalable API platform capabilities, including RESTful APIs and GraphQL services.
  • Develop solutions that handle large-volume data processing, large-file processing, and batch workloads.
  • Design and implement event-driven architectures using Kafka and related messaging technologies.
  • Create and optimize scalable caching solutions to improve system performance, reliability, and responsiveness.
  • Collaborate with product managers, infrastructure teams, security teams, and fellow engineers to deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Implement automated testing strategies and ensure software quality through best engineering practices.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize production systems to ensure high availability and operational efficiency.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of backend software engineering experience focused on Java / Spring Boot development in enterprise environments.
  • Hands-on experience developing applications using Kotlin and Micronaut.
  • Demonstrated expertise building and supporting enterprise-scale API platforms, including REST APIs and GraphQL.
  • Experience designing and implementing solutions using Kafka and PostgreSQL.
  • Experience implementing and optimizing caching solutions in production environments.
  • Strong background in automated testing, CI/CD practices, and Agile software development.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience developing and deploying Agentic AI solutions, including production-ready AI agents.
  • Experience building Conversational AI applications, particularly for customer-facing or service-oriented use cases.
  • Experience integrating AI/LLM capabilities into enterprise applications and business workflows.
  • Experience developing applications within PCI-compliant or highly regulated environments.
  • Background working in large-scale retail, e-commerce, payments, financial services, or transaction-processing platforms.
  • Experience with cloud-native architectures and microservices-based systems.
