What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Korean developer?

To thrive as a Korean Developer, you need strong programming skills (such as Java, Python, or C++), problem-solving abilities, and a relevant degree in computer science or software engineering. Familiarity with development tools like Git, IDEs, and knowledge of Korean-specific platforms or localization requirements is often necessary, along with certifications like AWS or Microsoft Azure being advantageous. Excellent teamwork, adaptability, and effective communication—especially bilingual proficiency in Korean and English—help set candidates apart. These skills are crucial for building high-quality, localized software solutions and collaborating efficiently within global or domestic tech teams.

How do Korean developers typically collaborate with international teams on software projects?

Korean Developers often work in multicultural environments where collaboration with international colleagues is common. Communication is usually conducted in English, and teams rely on tools like Slack, Jira, and GitHub to coordinate across time zones. Developers are expected to participate in regular stand-up meetings, code reviews, and pair programming sessions to ensure project alignment. Adapting to different work cultures and proactively seeking clarification on requirements are key to overcoming communication challenges and ensuring project success.

What does a Korean developer do?

A Korean Developer is a software engineer or programmer who specializes in developing applications, websites, or systems either for Korean clients, companies, or markets, or who is fluent in Korean and can work in Korean-language environments. They may work on localizing software for the Korean market, building platforms that cater to Korean users, or collaborating with Korean teams. Their responsibilities often include coding, debugging, testing, and deploying software, with additional skills in Korean language and cultural understanding being highly valuable.

Job description

[Job Summary]

We are looking for a seasoned professional to lead the development of our software product portfolio in a dynamic, multinational environment. The ideal candidate will guide cross-functional teams in an agile setting, manage both product and development processes, and drive the product from concept through to launch and iteration.

[Job Description]

Key Responsibilities

- Lead, mentor and manage a team of engineers/product practitioners (typically 5-10 people), fostering an agile, high-performing culture.

- Manage the full software product lifecycle: from requirement gathering, backlog prioritization, sprint planning, development, testing, release and post-launch iteration.

- Utilize development management tools (e.g., Jira, Slack, DevOps pipelines) to track progress, coordinate tasks, facilitate collaboration and ensure timely delivery.

- Work closely with cross-functional stakeholders including engineering, design, QA, marketing, sales and operations to ensure alignment and efficient execution.

- Drive agile and sprint management practices: set sprint goals, monitor sprint progress, perform retrospectives and continuously improve team workflows.

- Operate effectively in a multi-culture, multi-national environment: navigate diverse team dynamics, remote/distributed teams, and cultural differences.

- Ensure product quality, scalability and maintainability by working with technical leads/engineers to define architecture, development standards and best practices.

- Demonstrate deep understanding of cloud platforms, specifically AWS (Amazon Web Services): including core services, architecture design, scalability, cost-optimization, security and best practices in a cloud environment.

Requirements

Required Experience & Qualifications

- Proven experience in leading software product development efforts (i.e., having led a software product from development to launch)

- Experience using development management tools such as Jira, Slack, DevOps or equivalent.

- Minimum 5-10 years of software development experience, including at least 1 year in a development management role (managing people, processes or both).

- Experience managing a team of 5-10 members, including mentoring, performance reviews and fostering collaboration.

- Solid experience with Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban), with demonstrated ability to manage sprints, backlog prioritization and agile rituals.

- Experience working in a multi-culture and multi-national environment (e.g., distributed teams, cross-border communication, diverse cultural contexts).

- Strong understanding of AWS cloud platform: experience with core AWS services (e.g., EC2, S3, RDS, IAM/VPC), cloud architecture design, cost and performance optimization, security best practices, and ideally hands-on operational experience.

Preferred Qualifications

- Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field.

- Prior experience in a startup or fast-paced tech company environment.

- Strong technical background (understanding of software architecture, DevOps, CI/CD pipelines).

- Excellent communication, stakeholder management and collaboration skills across geographies and functions.

What You'll Bring to the Team

- A customer-first mindset and the ability to translate user needs into product features and roadmaps.

- Leadership that fosters autonomy, accountability and continuous improvement in your team.

- Comfort operating at both strategic (product vision) and tactical (sprint execution) levels.

- Adaptability to work in a dynamic, multi-cultural environment and to lead change.

- Strong sense of ownership: you deliver results, you iterate, you improve.
