Job description

Konami Gaming is looking for a Technical Writer II to join our team!

The Technical Writer II designs, develops and illustrates reference guides, usage guides, training guides or other documents to explain, modify and/or provide operational information on new or existing systems products to internal and external customers. This includes using Adobe tools, Dreamweaver, Photoshop or Microsoft applications to document and describe the functions and features of all systems products.

This position is inoffice and based at our Las Vegas Headquarters.

What you'll be doing:

Technical Documentation (40%): Ability to complete tasks within the specified project deadlines. Ability to create and maintain written Systems product documentation. Demonstrates ability to write clear and concise communication.

  • Transfer practical operational knowledge of system functions and features into written documentation. 
  • Create and maintain Training Guides for various Systems products.
  • Create and maintain Usage Guides for various Systems products.
  • Create and maintain F1 Reference Guides for SYNKROS.
  • Create and maintain Installation Guides for various Systems products.
  • Create and maintain What’s New documents for various Systems products.
  • Gather information, interpret product business and technical designs, and organize content for documentation.
  • Work with designated reviewers to ensure technical accuracy and appropriateness of documentation.
  • Create and maintain thorough, accurate, and concise end user documentation including online help files, PDF User Guides, release notes, and training materials.
  • Create and maintain documentation templates, style guide, and source.

Change Management (35%): Ability to conduct timely and thorough research.

  • Conduct research to determine what engineering changes may affect technical documentation.
  • Recommend changes to the Manager that will have an impact on product manuals or other technical documents.

Product Knowledge/Data Analysis (25%): Read, interpret, and analyze documentation. Active participation in planning, design and development team meetings.

  • Regularly read, analyze and get hands on with various system products in order to continue building expertise about all products.
  • Interpret the meaning of information for others.  For example: review Redmine tickets from the engineering team to incorporate the information into documentation.
  • Analyze data or information – identify the underlying principles, reasons or facts of information.
  • Become a subject matter expert in assigned areas of responsibility through active participation in product overviews, design reviews, along with hands-on product usage.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

What we'll want you to have:

  • Associates degree in technical fields such as Technical Illustration, Mechanical Design or Electronic Design required.
  • An equivalent combination of experience and education will be considered.
  • 1-2 years of technical writing experience for Gaming products, Systems and/or product operation or training manuals. Minimum of 1-2 years of experience working within an Engineering or Product Development department. 1-2 years of gaming Industry experience preferred. In addition, the incumbent must demonstrate the following practical knowledge:
    • Describing the function or features of a product.
    • Developing procedures or other structured operations.
    • Creating realistic operational screen shots.
    • Using document publication applications such as Adobe InDesign.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and efficiently, both verbal and written within all levels of the business.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Gaming licensure(s).
  • Intermediate and above level understanding and usage of Microsoft Office products including Microsoft Word, Dreamweaver, PowerPoint, on-line screen templates, and other industry standard documentation resources.
  • Must be able to manage documentation projects and work within an organized technical writing process that includes style guidelines, editorial/development cycles, source control and bug tracking.

Additional Requirements:

  • Minimal travel necessary. 0-10%, or as business requires. Employee must be flexible to the travel needs of the business. Must possess a valid driver's license.

Work Environment:

  • Full-time / 40+ hours per week. Must be flexible to work overtime, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Must be comfortable working in an area with limited working space for long hours with the ability to remain seated at computer terminal for extended periods of time. Extreme repetitive motion using keyboard, mouse, and telephone. Must be able to work at assigned location to enable direct communications and interactions with team members, management, and others as necessary, unless traveling for a business-related purpose.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a high-stress, fast-paced, and high-pressure environment while maintaining high standards of accuracy, paying attention to detail, and meeting assigned deadlines. Demonstrates high integrity, trust, and strict confidentiality. Ability to maintain excellent communication and a positive, respectful, and professional attitude and relationship with clients, employees, peers, co-workers, all levels of management, and all outside organizations conducting business or otherwise interacting with the company. Ability to always act autonomously while adhering to overall department and company policies and procedures.
  • Position shall work primarily in a smoke free office environment. The noise level is low to moderate. Position shall maintain a cubicle or office in close proximity to other cubicles and offices.
  • Position may be required to attend trips to casinos, tradeshows, or as needed. Must be able to tolerate areas containing varying noise and temperature levels, illumination, vibration, crowds, and air quality. Must be able to tolerate areas containing secondhand smoke.
