Summary

The Store Manager position’s primary responsibility is to fulfill our mission statement, “To create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests.” The Store Manager is responsible for managing the overall operation and profitability of the store. Additionally, the Store Manager leads Teammates to create and maintain the Buckle experience. As a proven leader, the Buckle expects its Store Managers to spend most of his or her time recruiting, hiring, training, motivating, directing and supervising Teammates to optimize Guest satisfaction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Sales Generation and Guest Service

  • Plan sales goals with the Area Manager, District Manager, Regional Manager (ADR) Leadership.
  • Role model sales and showmanship, demonstrating for all Teammates Buckle’s best practices to achieve sales goals and guest service standards.
  • Evaluate store sales and payroll on a weekly basis using key business reports and payroll tools.
  • Utilize sales reports and planning tools to achieve all store sales goals.
  • Ensure the sales floor is adequately supervised at all times.
  • Monitor Teammate’s Guest service and sales performance.
  • Communicate store trends and make recommendations to District Manager regarding store product selection.
  • Set and modify individual sales goals based on ongoing sales analyses.
  • Resolve Guest disputes.
  • Handle returns/exchanges and additional operational and loss prevention duties.

Teammate Recruiting, Training and Development

  • Determine store staffing needs, recruit, interview, screen, hire, coach and review Teammates in accordance with Buckle’s policies and guidelines.
  • Ensure Leadership Team is fully staffed and make seasonal staffing adjustments as needed.
  • Set and adjust pay rates.
  • Teammate talent and assessment, daily reviews and accountability.
  • Schedule work hours of Team based on business needs.
  • Provide effective education to Teammates to ensure all Teammates are educated in such procedures as opening, closing, cashiering, returns and other functions related to the operations of the store.
  • Delegate duties and responsibilities to foster a sense of ownership among the Teammates and to increase efficiency of store operations.
  • Manage staff by assigning specific daily duties and monitoring completion of tasks.
  • Work with all Teammates to develop a high performing team.
  • Evaluate Teammate performance including business builders, goals and overall productivity.
  • Coach, communicate and share feedback to Teammates on a daily basis.
  • Motivate Teammates to initiate and complete daily tasks.
  • Lead, direct, motivate and educate new Teammates to meet and achieve Buckle’s accountability, shift orientation, loss prevention and sales presentation standards on a daily basis.
  • Share feedback from Guests to Teammates.
  • Meets or above performance standards in all Buckle business builders and guest loyalty including fit appointments, Buckle credit card and guest connect.
  • Communicate feedback to District Manager with regard to sales and Teammate performance.
  • Educate Teammates to implement, evaluate and create visual displays based on Buckle guidelines.
  • Administer Buckle’s Commitment Program, including disciplinary action and termination decisions in consultation with District Manager and Human Resources.
  • Maintain store standards of excellence at all times.

Visual Merchandise Management

  • Present merchandise in a manner that will maximize sales and achieve optimum merchandise turn.
  • Stay current on product range and educate staff on competitor products.
  • Educate Teammates and Guests to identify product improvements, new product ideas and new product feedback.
  • Drive the implementation of Company programs such as sales promotions.
  • Identify market trends and adjust product placement based on industry knowledge.

Operations

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include mornings, evenings, and weekends, and the day of/day after Thanksgiving and Christmas, based upon store and business needs.
  • Drive operational excellence through accurate and timely recordkeeping, inventory audits, safety and security compliance, expense control development and maintenance of payroll costs and communication of store results to Company Management.
  • Ensure that all Human Resources paperwork (new hires, terminations and change in status) is promptly and accurately completed.
  • Ensure compliance with all state and federal wage and hour laws.
  • Implement the Buckle’s policies and monitor compliance with local, state and federal laws prohibiting discrimination and harassment in the workplace.
  • Identify methods for lowering expenses and increasing overall store profitability.
  • Review financial statements, sales and activity reports, and other data to measure productivity and goal achievement.
  • Attain store shrinkage goals.
  • Uphold highest standards on all Company audits.
  • Report and work closely with ADR and/or Director of Sales.
  • Interact with all Corporate departments.
  • Complete register balance and bank deposits accurately, daily and on time.
  • Adhere to loss prevention policies and store key controls at all times.
  • Sharpen skills by attending and participating in Manager Meetings.
  • Represent the Company at local meetings.
  • Demonstrate confidence and focus during periods of high volume or unexpected events to keep store operating to standard and to set a positive example of the store team.
  • Handle Teammate complaints and escalate to as needed to ADR and/or Human Resources.
  • Fulfill mission statement by performing job duties with a high level of customer service while contributing to a positive team spirit.
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises all Teammates in their store location. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training Teammates; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining Teammates; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in relevant field of study preferred; or one to two years related retail experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Must be able to relocate as required
  • Completion of Management Trainee Program preferred

While performing the duties of this Job, the Teammate is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and jump; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The Teammate is occasionally required to sit. Physical ability to lift and maneuver 50lbs throughout the store and backroom. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

The ability to travel by flight or motor vehicle including overnight stays. Ability to operate a motor vehicle for up to 6 hours.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the Teammate regularly works in a retail store setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
