Job description

General Description: 

The Manufacturing Manager reports to the Director of Operations.  The Manufacturing Manager is in charge of the company’s manufacturing departments and is responsible to ensure they meet all quality, delivery, and safety commitments. The position requires a strong understanding of manufacturing concepts, practices, and procedures.  The Manufacturing Manager directs and coordinates the work efforts of the Manufacturing Supervisors. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manufacturing Department Oversight
  • Oversee employee growth and training plan
  • Resolve problems and implement improvements
  • Establish manpower requirements

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree with 5 years related experience or 7 years related experience
  • Preferred experience in the following areas:
    • Familiar with manufacturing operations management
    • Lean Manufacturing
    • Custom Mixed Rubber
    • Mixing, extruding, calendaring, refining, and inspection/testing of rubber
    • The operation mills, internal mixers, extruders, Mill Room support equipment, and mechanical inspection and test equipment
    • Life Support Hose and Equipment
    • Building, molding, swaging, soldering, inspection/test processes, and packaging/shipping procedures
    • The operation of ovens, steam autoclaves, swage and knitting machines, PHI presses, and mechanical inspection and test equipment
    • Rubber and Composite Products
    • Compression and transfer molding, hand lay-up, rubber-to-metal bonding, composite-to-metal bonding, vacuum bag autoclave curing, pressure bag bonding, testing/inspection of compound and finished parts
    • The operation of hydraulic presses, steam and nitrogen autoclaves, degreasing equipment, ovens, mechanical inspection equipment, and support equipment
    • Proficient computer skills, math skills, blue print reading, and mechanical inspection gauge usage

    • Oversee departmental safety efforts
    • Establish and help attain manufacturing goals and objectives
    • Ensure Manufacturing Departments meet all product quality, schedule and cost commitments
    • Ensure that departmental operations are conducted in accordance with company policies and quality system requirements
    • Oversee job readiness efforts
    • Prioritize production schedules
  • Oversee employee growth and training plan
    • Establish and monitor employee growth plans
    • Administer written and hands-on testing
    • Ensure employees meet the requirements of their classification
    • Approve recommendations for change to employee classification
  • Resolve problems and implement improvements
    • Coordinate the resolution of issues interfering with quality, productivity, and schedule
    • Lead efforts in efficiency and cycle time improvements through lean manufacturing techniques
    • Determine, implement, and review corrective actions
    • Coordinate the evaluation of and response to action sheets
    • Problem solving 5 Why/8D/Fishbone Analysis
  • Establish manpower requirements
    • Establish manpower requirements
    • Approve applicants above operator level to ensure fit with the company
    • Establish equipment Capacity requirements
    • Participate in annual Planning
