Kitchen countertop installers are skilled professionals who specialize in measuring, cutting, and installing countertops in residential or commercial kitchens. They work with a variety of materials such as granite, quartz, laminate, marble, and solid surfaces. These installers ensure that countertops are fitted accurately and securely, taking into account factors like plumbing, cabinetry, and appliances. Their work often includes removing old countertops, preparing surfaces, and sealing or finishing new countertops to ensure durability and a polished appearance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a kitchen countertop installer?

To thrive as a Kitchen Countertop Installer, you need expertise in measuring, cutting, and installing countertop materials, often supported by experience in carpentry or construction. Familiarity with power tools, measuring devices, and sometimes certifications in OSHA safety standards or specialized material handling systems is common. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and strong customer service skills help installers meet client expectations and resolve onsite challenges. These skills are crucial to ensure precise, durable installations and maintain customer satisfaction in a competitive market.

What are some common challenges faced by kitchen countertop installers, and how can I prepare for them?

Kitchen countertop installers often encounter challenges such as handling heavy materials safely, ensuring precise measurements and cuts, and adapting to unexpected site conditions like uneven surfaces or tight spaces. Being detail-oriented and having strong problem-solving skills are essential for overcoming these obstacles. Position Summary
The Countertop Templater is responsible for traveling to customer homes and job sites to create precise digital templates for countertop installations. This position requires strong attention to detail, accuracy in measurements, and excellent customer-facing skills. The Templater works closely with homeowners, contractors, and the fabrication and CAD teams to ensure accurate specifications and a seamless installation process from start to finish.
This role is the critical link between the customer's vision and a perfect installation. If you take pride in accuracy, represent yourself professionally, and genuinely enjoy working with people, we want to hear from you.
What You Will Do
On-Site Templating
  • Travel to customer homes and commercial job sites to complete digital countertop templates
  • Use laser measuring equipment and digital templating software to capture precise dimensions (LT-2D3D, Photo Top preferred)
  • Review job details, drawings, and site conditions to confirm readiness before templating
  • Verify materials, edge profiles, sink cutouts, faucet holes, and all other custom specifications with the customer
  • Identify and report any job site issues that could affect fabrication or installation

Customer Communication
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with homeowners, contractors, builders, and project managers
  • Set accurate expectations regarding timelines, specifications, and next steps
  • Represent Top Advantage Surfaces with professionalism and a customer-first attitude at every visit

  • Communicate any changes, issues, or special requirements back to the production team promptly
  • Maintain company vehicle, equipment, and tools in clean, good working order
  • Follow all safety procedures and company standards on every visit

What We Are Looking For
Required
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy - a wrong measurement affects the entire project
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - you will be the face of Top Advantage at every job site
  • Ability to work independently, manage your schedule efficiently, and stay organized on the road
  • Comfortable working in both residential and commercial environments
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record required
  • Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs. and handle heavy materials when needed
  • Comfortable with frequent standing, walking, and bending at job sites

Preferred Experience
  • Prior experience in countertop templating, installation, or a related construction trade
  • Proficiency with digital laser templating systems - LT-2D3D or Photo Top experience is a strong plus
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and site plans
