Position Summary: Brightwater's Kitchen Assistants are expected to prepare, wash, and store dishes; assist with serving meals and bussing tables; and work as a team member with other employees to assure efficient, safe operation of the kitchen and the dining room.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Maintain resident, employee, and community information in strict confidence (with community management or other employees as necessary).
  • Provide employees, residents and guests with clean and sanitized utensils, plate ware, glassware and equipment.
  • Ensure dishes are sanitized and available as necessary.
  • Always keeps sanitation solution up to health department code standards.
  • Sets up the dish machine in the AM and close down the dish machine in the PM according to procedures.
  • Maintains daily cleanliness and maintenance of dish machine.
  • Complete Dishwasher Temperature Log at required times.
  • Washes plate ware, glassware, silverware, pots/pans and kitchen utensils according to sanitation and cleaning procedures.
  • Places clean plate ware, glassware, silverware, and pots/pans in specified shelves according to sanitation and cleaning procedures.
  • Keeps kitchen clean by sweeping, mopping floors, lining and emptying trash.
  • Cleans and sanitizes throughout shift.
  • Completes assigned prep work and cleaning duties.
  • Trouble-shoots dishwasher machine malfunction.
  • Attend scheduled training seminars and staff meetings.
  • Assist with setting tables, serving meals and bussing tables.
  • Keeps immediate supervisor promptly and fully informed of all problems or unusual matters of significance and takes prompt corrective action where necessary or suggests alternative courses of action which may be taken.

Requirements
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Meet state or provincial health related requirements.
  • Maintain current Food Handlers permit.
  • Maintain any certifications as required by state or provincial regulations.
  • Ability to read menus and clearly communicate resident needs.
  • Ability to hear well amongst loud background noise.
  • Able to carry trays and supplies.
