Jefferson Health and Thomas Jefferson University seek a visionary academic geriatrics leader to serve as the university's next Director of the Division of Geriatric Medicine.
Job Description
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will lead the Division of Geriatrics within the Department of Family & Community Medicine at Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University, building on the existing strengths of a dynamic and growing division, and establishing and pursuing a vision for the division's future.
The candidate must be board-certified in Geriatric Medicine and in either Family Medicine or Internal Medicine. The candidate will be appointed as a faculty member of Sidney Kimmel Medical College at the appropriate rank.
The Division of Geriatric Medicine comprises 9 faculty members who work in an interprofessional team environment that includes advanced practice clinicians, social workers, nursing, and pharmacy colleagues. The Division provides clinical services through the Center for Healthy Aging (CHA), an ambulatory practice in Center City, Philadelphia, that offers primary care geriatrics and memory assessments. CHA also includes a dedicated Pride program for LGBTQIA older adults. Ambulatory services are also offered at a community-based site in South Philadelphia and through a geriatric oncology practice embedded in the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Division provides inpatient consultations at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and Methodist Hospital, including oversight of an ACE unit; residential and post-acute care services; and a home-based primary care program. The Division's educational programs include a thriving fellowship as well as educational programs for internal and family medicine residents, medical students, and interprofessional colleagues. Geriatrics faculty and fellows have a strong record of scholarly productivity within the division and in collaboration with research partners across the university.
As Division Director, the candidate will develop a strategic vision that builds on the Division's strong foundation and vibrant academic culture to guide faculty, clinicians, and staff in ongoing career growth and development. The Director will be accountable for clinical services growth, operational excellence, quality of care, and innovation across geriatrics clinical services at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and Methodist Hospital; will lead geriatrics faculty in strengthening and evolving undergraduate and graduate medical education; will support interprofessional collaboration; and will leverage divisional, departmental, and institutional resources to actively pursue extramurally funded research and programmatic support. The Division Director will collaborate broadly with colleagues in the department, medical school, health system, health plan, and university to promote research, education, and practice of -high-quality, age friendly- care.
Qualifications
  • MD/DO or equivalent, Board Certified in Geriatric Medicine, eligible for PA licensure.
  • Minimum 8 years of progressive leadership experience in an academic medical environment.
  • Demonstrated success in clinical program development, team leadership, and interprofessional collaboration.
  • Experienced in undergraduate and graduate medical education, strong track record of peer-reviewed publications, and engagement in extramurally funded research programs; regional and national reputation in geriatric medicine.
