Sr. Kibana/Observability Engineer
Location: Remote
Role Overview
This is a hands-on Sr. Kibana/Observability Engineer position supporting a federal healthcare environment. The role serves as the bridge between data engineering teams and end users by ensuring data is properly onboarded, mapped, visualized, and operationalized through Kibana dashboards, alerts, and reporting. The ideal candidate is an Elastic expert who can contribute with minimal ramp-up time.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead efforts to ensure incoming data is properly mapped and organized.
  • Serve as the intermediary between data producers and end users.
  • Build and maintain Kibana dashboards, reports, and alerts.
  • Design and develop native and complex Kibana dashboards, visualizations, and analytics workflows.
  • Architect, engineer, and scale Elastic environments for time-series metrics, distributed tracing, and high-volume application logs.
  • Deploy and instrument Elastic APM agents across diverse application stacks (Java, .NET, Node.js, Python).
  • Configure advanced alerting rules and use Elastic Machine Learning to identify system degradation.
  • Collaborate with engineering and security teams to normalize telemetry and improve observability coverage.
  • Monitor system activity and identify anomalous or suspicious operational trends.
  • Support the implementation and monitoring of Service Level Indicators (SLIs) and Service Level Objectives (SLOs).
Required Qualifications
  • Must be a eligible to obtain & maintain a Public Trust clearance
  • 7+ years of experience with a Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
  • Deep expertise with the Elastic Stack (ELK).
  • Strong experience with Kibana dashboarding and visualization.
  • Experience with data onboarding, data mapping, and creating dashboards, alerts, and reports.
  • Ability to consume, organize, and visualize large datasets.
  • Understanding of machine learning concepts and their operational impacts.
  • Experience with Python and API integration.
  • IAT Level II or III Certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Splunk or ITSI.
  • Knowledge of AWS and/or Azure security.
  • Experience supporting Elastic observability and telemetry analytics (e.g., OpenTelemetry, SIEM/log architectures).
  • Experience developing executive dashboards and operational reporting.
  • Familiarity with Cloud architecture, system administration, and infrastructure-as-code principles.
  • Knowledge of software engineering and development methodologies.
  • Understanding of Federal cybersecurity and compliance environments.
  • Ability to support 10-15% travel.
