Job Specification

As part of the Warehouse Team, this position plays an important part in producing maintenance platform components, while ensuring proper form, fit and function of an overall quality product. The Shop Helper's basic job responsibility is to assist welders, assemblers, and other team members as needed in the fabrication shop. We are looking for a reliable, thorough, and attentive individual with a strong work ethic, willingness to learn new skills and act with initiative. 

Key Responsibilities 

We measure impact by your successful ability to: 

Ability to receive/read, and understand specific instructions, basic drawings, work orders, and/or cut lists, and action to completion

Ability to read and operate a tape measure, square, and angle finder

Ability to keep work areas clean and clutter-free

Willingness to learn machine/equipment operation, safety and preventative maintenance

 Knowledge and use of common material handling equipment and their safe operation:

forklifts, overhead cranes, pallet-jacks

Knowledge and use of common power tools and their safe operation:

metal working/beveling tools, abrasive cleaning tools, angle grinders, hand drills, impacts, wrenches, etc

Knowledge and use of common industrial processing tools/types and their safe operation:

band saw, table saw, miter saw, drill press, manual mill/lathe, ironworker - notching and punching

Additional knowledge of industrial processing tools/types desirable but not required: 

torch (plasma), up-cut saw, and shear 

Knowledge and experience processing different material types and grades desirable but not required, i.e., carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum (6061 / 5052, etc,.)

Ability to safely transport company products and materials to and from specified locations in a timely manner

Assist with the loading and offloading of products and materials; report any accidents, injuries, and vehicle damage to management

Must wear proper personal protection equipment and comply with safety rules and policies at all times

Familiarize, understand, and use all standard operating procedures determined by manufacturer and company in relation to material processing equipment

Ensure that product standards, both quality and quantity are met

Interpret dimensions, material types, and material grades on cut lists or drawings

Familiarize and understand all company employment policies such as work hours/days, drug screening, safety guidelines, and all policies outlining employee behavior on shop floor

Maintain a positive attitude and further development and maintenance of a cohesive team-oriented work environment with all employees, vendors, and customers and support the company in all decisions

May be asked by management to perform other tasks beyond those listed

Requirements

  Education, Experience and Skills 

Education: High School Diploma, GED or Equivalent

Experience: one plus (1+) years in a manufacturing environment, i.e., mechanical, technical, construction, and/or machining experience; specifically, operating shop related equipment, hand tools, and processing material by basic mechanical/machine means

Veteran/Military experienced candidates are encouraged to apply 

Ability to communicate in English required, both written and verbal skills 

Must have the ability to stand for long periods of time within an open noisy machine and fabrication shop environment, in temperatures, as well as humidity, that fluctuate in accordance with the season

Walking long distances and climbing stairs is required within the office and shop areas

This position requires turning the head and torso, bending, kneeling, reaching, grasping, flexing of arms, waist, legs, wrists, fingers, as well as functional hearing, vision, and voice (English)

This position also requires ability to safely lift (bend ones knees) up to 50 lbs
