JOB SUMMARY
TRIO Student Support Services promotes student success in completing degrees, certificates, and transferring to 4-year institutions. By providing mentoring and intensive advising, tutoring and instruction, the Department improves the likelihood of a student's academic, financial, cultural, and social success
PURPOSE
  • Create welcoming environment in the TRIO room for all students
  • Help navigate KCC college campus, MyKCC, Canvas and resources for newer students
  • Assist with coursework, troubleshooting available resources, and class syllabus outline and guidelines.

The TRIO Peer mentor is for KCC enrolled TRIO students only who have almost 1 year completed of their degree. Minimum wage is paid and up to 8 hours per week.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or abilities required to perform the job description satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Participate in training sessions as needed
  • Encourage TRIO students to attend college visits and TRiO events each term
  • Maintain personal contact either in person or through Canvas with each assigned student at least 2x per month
  • Meet with TRiO Coordinator once a month, more if needed
  • Complete paperwork about interactions with assigned students in folder
  • Serve as a positive social and academic role model
  • Maintain confidentiality with any shared information
  • Adhere to Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) Regulations.
  • Follow and enforce all KCC policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Current KCC enrolled students in the TRIO program
  • Enrolled in an Associate degree
  • Maintain GPA of 3.0 or higher

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Ability to work in Fall, Winter and Spring terms of the current year
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Will work in both indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Will work in close contact with other students
  • May be required to lift up to 25 pounds for events
