Job description

Position Purpose
This position is responsible for the administrative and clinical duties related to the operation of the pharmacy in accordance with federal and state law, JCAHO standards, and the facility's philosophies, goals, and objectives; and for planning, controlling, coordinating, and measuring the work of the department.
Nature and Scope
This position is responsible for pharmaceutical decisions on a day-to-day basis. The incumbent must be able to train and oversee day-to-day activities of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, pharmacy residents, interns, students and clerks, as well as the oversight of pharmacy interns, students, and technicians for accuracy as it relates to regulatory compliance, and coordination of workload. This position is responsible to ensure all facility required training including OLA's are completed by staff.. This position is expected to be the "managing pharmacist," also known as the Pharmacist in Charge for the State of Nevada for the Healthcare Center Pharmacy, and fulfill all the regulatory duties thereof.
Specific job functions will include but not be limited to such activities as: quality improvement/assurance monitoring, scheduling, technician involvement (training, in-services, etc.), orientation/training of new staff, completion of personnel evaluation forms and supporting documents and other activities related to individual employee performance. The Supervisor will also provide input to the Pharmacy Manager regarding recommendations and suggestions for specific actions which will enhance the productivity of the department. All activities within the pharmacy should be reviewed on a regular basis, and evaluated for efficiency and flow improvements.
The major challenge is to harmoniously bridge the distributive responsibilities of the pharmacy with the clinical responsibilities. This position is responsible for ensuring medications are dispensed in a timely, efficient, accurate manner wit the assistance of the technical staff. In addition, this position is responsible for monitoring and influencing drug therapy. The incumbent can recommend appropriate drug therapy to the physician, and is expected to initiate appropriate formulary policy procedures.
The incumbent is expected on a regular basis to lead staff meetings, pharmacist meetings, etc. with the collaboration of management.
This position is challenged to maintain awareness of the technological advances in hospital pharmacy, and to be proficient in communication. Other related duties and overtime may be required.
The incumbent has the authority to separate acceptable from unacceptable work; perform monthly scheduling and daily work assignments; effectively participate in matters of employment, performance evaluations, work assignment, and discipline; and to assess progress during training and orientation.
The incumbent has authority to make workload and staffing assignments, including sending staff home, or authorizing overtime to meet immediate staffing needs. The incumbent has the disciplinary authority up to and including dismissal for the remainder of a shift for serious policy violations, in accordance with personnel policy and to maintain operational control of the area.
Decisions that must be referred to the Pharmacy Manager are any unusual circumstances not addressed by established policy and procedure. Assists and provides recommendations to the Pharmacy Manager regarding yearly budget.
Participates in the interview processes delegated by the Pharmacy Manager, and makes recommendations for employment.
Serves on committees as appointed by the Director.
Maintains Quality Improvement program.

Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to perform job duties safely and effectively. Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy, Pharm.D. preferred.
Experience:
Two years of managerial experience in a retail pharmacy preferred.
License(s):
Ability to obtain and maintain a State of Nevada Pharmacist license. Board certification is preferred.

Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, and Word and have the ability to use the computer to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc. Typing: 30 wpm.
