What is a junior visual designer?

Junior Visual Designers are entry-level professionals who create visual concepts to communicate ideas that inspire, inform, or captivate consumers. They work under the guidance of senior designers or art directors, assisting with tasks such as designing layouts, selecting colors, and developing graphics for digital or print media. Junior Visual Designers typically use design software like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, and may contribute to branding, marketing materials, websites, and social media content. Their role is crucial in supporting the overall visual identity of a company or project while gaining experience in the field.

What are some common challenges faced by junior visual designers when working on collaborative projects?

Junior Visual Designers often encounter challenges such as balancing creative input with client or stakeholder feedback, adapting to different design styles, and communicating their design choices effectively within multidisciplinary teams. Navigating these situations requires flexibility, openness to constructive criticism, and strong collaboration skills. Over time, gaining experience in presenting and defending design decisions and working closely with senior designers and developers can help build confidence and competence in team environments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a junior visual designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Junior Visual Designer, you need a solid understanding of design principles, proficiency in graphic design, and a relevant degree or coursework in visual design or a related field. Familiarity with industry-standard tools like Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and basic knowledge of UI/UX design systems are typically required. Creativity, attention to detail, and effective communication are essential soft skills for collaborating with teams and interpreting client feedback. These skills and qualities are crucial for producing compelling visual assets that meet project goals and enhance brand identity.

Job description

Staff Electrical Design Engineer (EPC) — End-to-End Ownership Across a Whole Industrial Campus

McCarran, NV | Full-Time | $145,000 – $185,000

The Opportunity

One week it's 34.5 kV site infrastructure; the next it's a hazardous occupancy lab or a new industrial facility. Our client — a rapidly scaling clean energy innovator — needs a Staff Electrical Design Engineer who thrives on variety and ownership. You'll be Electrical Engineer of Record on assigned projects, taking electrical deliverables from concept sketch to construction-ready IFC packages across industrial, office, lab, and warehouse environments.

Why You'll Love It

  • True end-to-end ownership: Your stamp, your drawings, your projects — concept through commissioning
  • Unmatched variety: MV site infrastructure (34.5 kV/24.9 kV), hazardous occupancy, recycling facilities, labs, offices, warehouses
  • Nevada advantage: No state income tax, with Reno-Tahoe on your doorstep
  • Engineering over lookup tables: Optimize designs with real calcs (AmpCalc ampacity, SKM/ETAP studies) instead of prescriptive NEC tables

What You'll Do

  • Design and own electrical systems end-to-end: MV feeds up to 34.5 kV, LV power distribution, lighting, raceway, grounding, and communications
  • Serve as Electrical Engineer of Record, producing permit and construction drawings
  • Perform short-circuit, arc flash, and protective device coordination studies (SKM/ETAP)
  • Run cable ampacity calculations to optimize sizing beyond prescriptive code tables
  • Lead multi-discipline coordination — architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, fire & life safety — to deliver complete IFC packages
  • Review conceptual designs for technical and financial risk; write specs and run technical bid evaluations of consultant work
  • Lead code analysis across NEC, IECC, and applicable NFPA standards
  • Own construction administration — RFIs, submittals, change orders, site inspections — as technical point of contact through commissioning
  • Build cost estimates and schedules, perform QA/QC, mentor junior engineers, and shape internal design standards

What You'll Bring

  • BS/MS in Electrical Engineering (ABET)
  • Active PE (Nevada or reciprocity-eligible); NV and SC licensure within 2 months of start
  • 10+ years in heavy commercial and industrial design with evidence of exceptional ability
  • Deep code expertise: NEC, IECC, and relevant NFPA standards
  • Advanced proficiency: Revit MEP, AutoCAD, Navisworks, Bluebeam, SKM/ETAP, AmpCalc, and lighting software (Visual/AGI)
  • Ability to juggle multiple concurrent projects and deliver on schedule
  • Willingness to travel for construction administration and commissioning
  • Communication skills that work from the trench to the boardroom
