UI/UX Designer
Overland Park, KS
3 days per week onsite
12 months contract
Pay: $40.00 - $45.00/hr
About the Role Our client is undergoing a major platform rebuild and is looking for a UI/UX Designer to join a small, high-impact design team. You'll work closely with the team's lead designer, business analysts, and development stakeholders to design intuitive, modern experiences for a legacy platform being rebuilt from the ground up.
This is a hands-on design role covering the full lifecycle from wireframes through high-fidelity design, prototyping, and developer handoff. Research is currently more limited given the project's stage, but a strong foundation in research and testing is valued as that work ramps up. Key Responsibilities
- Own wireframing, high-fidelity design, visual design, and prototyping for assigned areas of the platform
- Partner closely with business analysts and business stakeholders to translate requirements into design solutions
- Facilitate design review conversations, clearly explaining and defending design decisions to stakeholders
- Prepare clean handoff files and work directly with developers through implementation
- Stay closely aligned with the design lead through regular check-ins and project reviews
- Balance independent ownership of your own priorities and timelines with strong team collaboration
- Bring a point of view on how AI can support and accelerate the design workflow
Requirements
- 2-4 years of UI/UX design experience
- Strong portfolio demonstrating wireframing, high-fidelity design, and prototyping work
- Proficiency in Figma strongly preferred (experience in Sketch or similar tools also considered)
- Excellent collaboration, communication, and follow-through - this role requires someone who is reliable and easy to work with, not just a strong designer
- Comfortable working independently while staying in close alignment with a small team
- Strategic, technical, and forward-thinking approach to design problems
- Able to give and receive feedback constructively, without ego
- Exposure to Azure DevOps and/or Storybook is a plus, not required
- Interest in applying AI tools to design workflows is a plus
What Success Looks Like
Within the first few months, you're fully embedded in the team's design workflow, running discovery through handoff independently on your own priorities, while staying in lockstep with the design lead and business analysts. Stakeholders trust you to explain and stand behind your design decisions, and the team can count on you to follow through on what's been discussed.
