We are seeking a highly experienced, dynamic, and strategic Project and System Engineer III based in Northern California to lead complex engineering initiatives and mentor our growing team.
Position Overview
As a Project and System Engineer III, you will serve as a technical lead on major capital projects, driving advanced process engineering design, automation integration, and continuous improvement initiatives. You will take ownership of high-value systems engineering projects, solve complex physical and digital manufacturing challenges, and act as a key cross-functional bridge between leadership, internal departments, and major customer stakeholders.
Responsibilities & Duties
Advanced Process Engineering & System Design
  • Lead Cross-Functional Alignment: Work closely with Project Management, Applications Engineering, and manufacturing departments to manage complex schedules, resolve critical design challenges, and drive plant-wide process improvements.
  • System Integration Ownership: Design, implement, and optimize highly advanced custom manufacturing processes, tooling, and equipment. Ensure flawless integration with complex automation systems like PLCs, SCADA, and MES.
  • High-Value Portfolio Ownership: Provide senior engineering leadership for large-scale, high-complexity projects ranging from $2M to $15M+ with complete autonomy and minimal oversight.
  • Complex Modeling: Perform and validate advanced process design calculations, including complex mass and energy balances, scale-up calculations from pilot trials, and total utility requirement determinations.
  • Tailored Engineering Solutions: Apply advanced logical problem-solving and consultative engineering skills to architect optimal, innovative process solutions tailored to unique customer needs.
Advanced Troubleshooting, Root Cause, & CI
  • Expert Technical Escalation: Provide advanced technical support to production and field teams to diagnose and resolve highly complex issues stemming from physical processes or system/software malfunctions.
  • Preventative Leadership: Lead deep-dive root cause analysis (RCA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to eliminate recurring system failures across product lines.
  • Continuous Improvement Champions: Champion Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies to aggressively drive efficiency, eliminate waste, and elevate product quality. Masterfully analyze historical data from manufacturing systems to identify trends and execute new strategic solutions.
Documentation, Compliance, & Mentorship
  • Technical Deliverables: Author, review, and approve critical technical deliverables including advanced Engineering Specifications, Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Process Functional Descriptions, Component Lists, Technical Reports, and Automation Architectures.
  • Regulatory & Quality Gatekeeping: Ensure all engineering designs stringently meet regulatory, customer, and company safety/compliance standards.
  • Strategic Collaboration & Mentorship: Collaborate with executive and product development groups to engineer new products, ensuring alignment with the company's long-term manufacturing strategy. Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior and mid-level engineers.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Education & Experience
  • Degree: Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g., Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial, or a related field). A Master's degree is a plus.
  • Experience: 6+ years of progressive engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, with a proven track record of successfully delivering complex process engineering and systems-heavy projects.
Technical Expertise
  • Software Proficiency: Expert proficiency with process simulation software, CAD packages, and advanced data analysis tools.
  • Automation Systems: Deep working knowledge and integration experience with industrial automation systems (PLC, HMI, MCC, SCADA, MES).
  • Business Tools: Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and experience with Salesforce platforms.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary Range: $109,100 to $126,600 (Salary DOE)
