Service Credit Union is seeking a Financial Accountant who is a seasoned staff person responsible for supporting management in coordinating departmental efforts to achieve the critical goal of timely and accurate preparation of the monthly statements of income and condition. The Financial Accountant is asked to provide support for questions and assistance to the other positions within the department, as well as staff in other departments.

Compensation range: $94,959 - $118,700/yearly, depending on experience and qualifications. Junior level candidates typically start at the lower end of the range, with opportunities for growth as skills develop.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Perform proforma analysis on credit union wide projects.
  • Develop, construct and maintain ROI analysis on credit union wide tracking metrics.
  • Construct financial statement reports and templates as needed.
  • Investment accounting and payment processing.
  • Identifies, analyzes, and solves complex accounting issues and research in accordance with GAAP.
  • Possess detailed knowledge of GAAP; provide research, guidance and technical assistance as needed.
  • Aid in the preparation of consolidated financial statements through gathering, analyzing and reconciling information from other departments and the accounting system.
  • Assists in ongoing review of accounting system and processes to help drive continuous improvement.
  • Assists with ongoing updates and maintenance in Prologue, including account maintenance and reporting.
  • Responsible for the monthly ALLL/CECL calculation and all supporting schedules and entries.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of CUSO accounting - journal entries, ALLL/CECL and account reconciliations.
  • Ongoing income and expense account review to scan for discrepancies.
  • Prepare journal entries to assigned accounts as deemed necessary.
  • Responsible for all monthly accrued expense entries.
  • Works directly with the Service CU Actuarial Accountant to determine the monthly SERP calculations, all supporting entries and the monthly reconciliations.
  • Directly responsible for maintaining the third party Derivative accounting relationships. Works directly with the third party on a regular basis for reporting, tracking and recording of any applicable accounting treatment.
  • Assists in the annual budget process as needed.
  • Performs month end closing analytics to identify fluctuations in the accounts that need explanation.
  • Responsible for the review of all accounts payable entries.
  • Maintain job knowledge through participation in educational opportunities, professional publications, personal networks and professional organizations.
  • Answers telephones and assume responsibilities generated by calls.
  • Assists with other department responsibilities as necessary.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding credit union policies and procedures, member financial data, personal information, and work-related events.
  • Provide quality support and maintain a professional relationship with peers, management, other staff, and members through cooperation, mutual trust and respect.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.

Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • The individual must have the ability to articulate a detailed understanding of accounting practices and concepts.
  • Must possess critical thinking skills and have the ability to articulate clearly to co-workers and management.
  • Strong technical ability relative to accounting related issues.
  • Proficient with Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Power point, and various web-based applications required.
  • Must be able to balance multiple tasks and workloads.
  • Possess the ability to work independently or within a team environment as the job entails.
  • Meet tight deadlines (especially during the month end close process) and be flexible to work as needed to get tasks accomplished.
  • Adept knowledge of financial statements and supporting schedule components.
  • Ability to organize and manipulate large data sets to extrapolate conclusions.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills with great attention to detail.

Education/Experience/Certifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting is required (degree in Finance, Statistics, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or Business would be considered), with pursuit of an advanced degree preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 5 - 10 years' experience in an accounting related role is required.
