Position Description:

Provides technical guidance on the design, implementation, and support of complex Oracle databases in 12c and 19c On-Premises distributed Infrastructure, Exadata, and Cloud (Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS)). Migrates databases from on premises to public Cloud using AWS, Azure, and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS). Provides technical vision and support to build scalable, highly performant, and optimal distributed database systems to power and scale the business brokerage platform. Provides technical leadership to evaluate, design, and perform administration of the unique state of database systems. Coordinates with multiple cloud service providers (Content Security Policy (CSP)) to host database systems in both AWS and Microsoft Azure. Collaborates with diverse teams (architects, developers, product owners, and site reliability engineering (SRE)) across multiple geographies, and incorporates industry standards and nuanced brokerage requirements to build a compliant database system.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Leads enterprise-level database architecture and strategy.
  • Defines and implements standards for database design and performance.
  • Tests and implements new design features for common database offerings.
  • Designs, implements, and maintains databases in the Cloud.
  • Evaluates and performs highly complex database performance and functionality tests.
  • Establishes full project life cycle plans for complex projects.
  • Plans, coordinates, and implements security measures to safeguard computer databases.
  • Provides expert-level support for complex database issues.
  • Advises senior leadership on database technologies.
  • Modifies existing databases and database management systems and/or collaborates with programmers and analysts to make changes.
  • Mentors junior DBAs.
  • Performs independent and complex technical and functional analysis for multiple projects supporting several divisional initiatives.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and five (5) years of experience as a Principal Database Administrator (or closely related occupation) performing performance tuning within Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) and Exadata environments.

Or, alternatively, Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and three (3) years of experience as a Principal Database Administrator (or closely related occupation) performing performance tuning within Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) and Exadata environments.

Skills and Knowledge:

Candidate must also possess:

  • Demonstrated Expertise ("DE") performing database administration on Oracle 12c/19c RAC -- Oracle EXADATA solutions and Oracle E-Business Suites R12 -- within a mission critical asset management environment; performing installation, administration, and configuration of Oracle RAC patching; and performing Oracle database replication or Cross Platform Database Migration using Golden Gate and Data Guard configuration for mission critical asset management applications.
  • DE performing Oracle database administration across Oracle Exadata, ESX RAC, Linux RAC platforms, and Oracle on EC2 in AWS, using Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), TOAD, Oracle SQL Developer, Oracle SQL Plus, Oracle Automatic Work Repository (AWR), and Database Configuration Assistant (DBCA).
  • DE performing database SQL tuning and troubleshooting in real-time mission critical database applications using Oracle Enterprise Manager 13c; and identifying bottlenecks and providing optimization recommendations based on Oracle AWR, ASH, and SQLT reports and system diagnostics.
  • DE performing application database administration using Snowflake, Azure PostgreSQL, PostgreSQL in AWS EC2, Aurora, Flex, and RDS managed environments; and performing cross CSP design, configurations, and administration using Yugabyte cloud in AWS and Azure environments.
