Job description

Position Summary

The Senior Software Engineer will be responsible for the design, documentation, development, and testing of new and existing Software solutions within the Digital Workflow Solutions Business Unit. You will also be responsible for analyzing product/system-level requirements and translating them into software requirements, as well as the deployment and delivery of specific software features and functionality. You will work with cross-functional teams to deliver new features, ensure application performance, and mentor junior engineers. SPM Workflow Solution and Surgical Asset Tracking Software | STERIS

*You will be developing software solutions that are part of the STERIS product offering. Experience developing software sold directly to customers is required. (This is not an IT position.)

**This is position is located in Vernon Hills, IL with an opportunity for a hybrid work schedule.

What You'll Do as a Senior Software Engineer
  • Contributes to cross functional project planning, development, and analysis of product requirements, and proposed solutions.
  • Refine and refactor the software design based on the system architecture and new product requirements.
  • Designs, documents, implements, and maintains efficient, reusable, secure, and reliable software code according to corporate and department standards and procedures for new and sustaining engineering projects, maintaining code quality, organization, and automation.
  • Creates software development process documentation, including requirements, design and interface specifications and verification documentation.
  • Develops time and effort estimates for features and functions.
  • Develops and performs unit, integration, and/or system testing of applications as required.
  • Participates in design reviews to identify issues and provides recommendations for enhancements.
  • Works independently on routine activities, issues, plans, and larger-scale designs.
  • Will act as a mentor to junior engineers although not directly responsible for their management.
  • Identifies bottlenecks and bugs, and devises solutions to these problems.
  • Reviews and resolves software defect and change requests.
  • Reviews and approves plans and detailed designs.
The Experience, Skills and Abilities Needed

Required:

  • Bachelor's in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years design and development of software systems for web, mobile, cloud (Azure) and desktop including C#/.Net, Microsoft Full Stack.
  • 8+ years experience developing commercial software products sold to external businesses (B2B).
  • Strong understanding of software development principles and design patterns.
  • Experience with agile development methodologies.
  • Experience with Git or DevOps version control.
  • Experience with configuration management, continuous integration(CI), continuous deployment(CD), and automated code analysis tools is desired.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree desired.
  • Experience with containerization tools is desired.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) is a plus.
  • Exposure to AI-assisted development tools and modern engineering productivity practices.

Other:

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Working knowledge of MFC, Java, React.

Pay range for this opportunity is $108,000 - $127,000. This position is also eligible for bonus participation.

Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed. Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.
