Job description

STV is seeking a Junior Software Engineer to join our Digital Advisory team at our New York City, NY or Boston, MA offices. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer who is passionate about software development, eager to learn from experienced professionals, and excited to work with modern technologies, including AI-powered development tools and cloud-based applications.

You will contribute to multiple concurrent projects ranging from capital planning platforms and asset management systems to workflow automation, analytics applications, and enterprise data solutions. This role offers significant opportunities for mentorship, skill development, and exposure to all phases of the software development lifecycle.

Position Summary

As a Junior Software Engineer, you will help design, develop, test, and support full-stack software applications used by clients and internal teams across STV's digital portfolio. Working alongside senior engineers, architects, data specialists, and business stakeholders, you will gain experience building scalable web applications, APIs, and cloud-based services while contributing to solutions that solve real-world infrastructure and operational challenges.

The ideal candidate possesses a solid foundation in .NET, React, and relational databases, combined with strong curiosity, adaptability, and a willingness to continuously learn and improve.

Key Responsibilities

Software Development

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain software applications using .NET Core, React, and TypeScript.

  • Contribute to the development of RESTful APIs and backend services that support enterprise applications and data platforms.

  • Assist in implementing responsive, user-friendly interfaces and reusable frontend components.

  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, development, testing, deployment, and support.

  • Troubleshoot software defects and help resolve issues in development, testing, and production environments.

Collaboration & Delivery

  • Work closely with senior engineers, project managers, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver high-quality solutions.

  • Participate in Agile development activities including sprint planning, standups, retrospectives, and backlog refinement.

  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Support multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining quality and attention to detail.

Engineering Excellence

  • Participate actively in code reviews and incorporate feedback to improve technical skills and code quality.

  • Follow established coding standards, testing practices, and documentation requirements.

  • Contribute to technical documentation, knowledge-sharing activities, and engineering best practices.

  • Stay current with emerging technologies, software development tools, and AI-assisted development techniques.

Cloud & Data Technologies

  • Support application deployment and maintenance within Microsoft Azure environments.

  • Assist with database design, development, and maintenance using SQL Server and relational database concepts.

  • Help implement secure, reliable, and scalable cloud-based solutions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.

  • 2-3 years of professional software engineering experience.

  • Working proficiency in and .NET Core, including developing REST APIs and working with data access layers.

  • Working knowledge of React and TypeScript, including component-based development and basic state management concepts.

  • Experience working with SQL Server, T-SQL, or relational databases.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Azure, including cloud-hosted applications, storage services, or deployment processes.

  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies quickly and apply constructive feedback from code reviews.

  • Strong problem-solving, analytical thinking, and debugging skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Comfortable collaborating directly with business stakeholders, clients, and cross-functional team members.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Entity Framework or other ORM technologies.

  • Familiarity with Git-based source control and modern development workflows.

  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.

Compensation Range:

$95,975.90 - $109,686.74
