Responsibilities
JOB PURPOSE
The Manager, Business Development manages development activities for assigned battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in North America. This role collaborates with internal and external project stakeholders, builds strong working relationships, develops and manages budgets, and identifies and mitigates risks to support successful project development and execution.
Key Accountabilities
  • Lead multiple development projects at once across stage gates, technologies, and geographies, including project schedules, cross-functional team coordination, follow-ups, bidding activity, and related deliverables.
  • Execute and optimize development projects in coordination with management, ensuring timely decisions, stakeholder alignment, and disciplined tracking of risks, schedules, budgets, and progress against plan.
  • Coordinate with permitting, land, origination, meteorology, engineering and construction, transmission, fundamentals, stakeholder engagement, legal, finance, accounting, operations, asset management, and other internal teams to maximize project opportunities.
  • Support internal processes and coordination, including budget tracking, authorizations, financial modeling, reporting, Salesforce inputs, Board deliverables, RELAY activities, and other project tracking processes.
  • Support community outreach and permitting activities in coordination with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Manage project work plans and recommend changes that may affect timing, budget, or scope within approved parameters, elevating material issues to management as appropriate.
  • Communicate effectively across project stakeholders, including internal and external partners and leadership, to promote accountability, informed decision-making, and effective project execution.
  • May manage an intern and/or junior development team member, including providing direction, coaching, and support on assigned work.

Qualifications
Educational Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in business, finance, engineering, environmental studies, energy, or a related field.

Required Work Experience
  • 3-5 years of experience in the power industry with significant renewable energy project development, project finance, or asset management experience required.
  • Basic understanding of the renewable energy industry, including land acquisition, interconnection processes, and permitting required.
  • Working knowledge of PowerPoint, spreadsheets, and databases required; experience with GIS and Enverus/Prism useful.
  • Ability to interact with and motivate internal project teams and manage third-party contractors required.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects across development milestones, schedules, budgets, risk mitigation, and cross-functional deliverables.
  • Strong project management, communication, stakeholder engagement, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Additional Requirements
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, make timely recommendations, and clearly communicate risks, opportunities, and issues to management.
  • Experience managing project development budgets, schedules, agreements, authorizations, reporting processes, and cross-functional deliverables preferred.
  • People management or mentorship experience with interns, analysts, or junior development team members preferred.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as needed to support project development, community outreach, permitting, and stakeholder engagement activities.

The expected starting pay range for this role is $111,000 - $138,000 USD. This range is an estimate and base pay may be above or below the ranges based on several factors including but not limited to location, work experience, certifications, and education. In addition to base pay, Pattern's compensation program includes a bonus structure for full-time employees of all levels.
