Job description

Farnsworth Groupis seeking a Water Resources Engineer in the below posting location(s). In this role, you will lead and manage a variety of water resources projects, provide technical and project leadership, mentor engineering staff, oversee client relationships and project financials, and support the growth of the water resources practice through business development and strategic planning efforts.
Posting Locations: Champaign, IL; Chicago, IL; Lisle, IL; Normal, IL; Tinley Park, IL
What You'll Do:
  • Work with minimal supervision to assign, review, and evaluate performance of new projects, ensuring project needs are met.
  • Display strong leadership for the team to meet project goals and grow the water resources group in staff, clients, and projects.
  • Manage several projects simultaneously within the water resources discipline from inception to completion.
  • Manage clients and financials associated with the water resources projects
  • Manage and mentor younger staff in the section
  • Coordinate with Farnsworth Group leadership to explore future opportunities, budget planning, and staff resourcing needs.
  • Design a variety of water resources engineering projects, including natural channel design, green infrastructure, detention projects, culvert design, and IDOT highway storm sewer systems.
  • QAQC hydrology and hydraulic modeling and analysis
  • Review internal floodplain and drainage studies
  • Prepare reports on engineering analyses and model results
  • Understand permit requirements and instruct junior staff on permit applications
  • Maintain and enhance relationships with clients.
  • Form new client relationships to win work for the section
  • Take the lead on proposal development for new projects by developing fees, writing approaches and scope, and coordinating other technical disciplines or subconsultants for the project.

What You'll Need:
  • BS in Civil, Agricultural, or Environmental Engineering
  • 15+ years experience in engineering field (or less years experienced with an advanced degree (PhD))
  • Professional Engineering License

Nice To Haves: (optional; not all jobs will have this separate list)
  • Proven experience successfully executing technical design tasks and driving project delivery efforts of a team, including plan preparation.
  • Strong project management credentials, including scoping, establishing schedules, fee development, budget planning, plan development, and project tracking/reporting.
  • Proven capabilities in H&H modeling software required. Software may include EPA-SWMM, PC-SWMM, HEC-RAS 2D, HEC-HMS, and Hydraflow Hydrographs.
  • Skill in Microsoft software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D and GIS preferred
  • Experience with IDOT regulations preferred
  • Proven experience designing and managing projects in the water resources engineering field, including stream restoration, bank stabilization, green infrastructure, and detention projects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong current client relationships with the ability to lead business development activities.
  • Strong team player that can manage and contribute to several projects simultaneously
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Passion for water resources and stormwater management

Salary Range: $120,000-$197,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, as well as internal and external equity)
