Our Water Resources discipline comprises engineers who perform hydrologic and hydraulic modeling studies in support of planning, design, and permitting for dams, water supply reservoirs, levees/flood control structures, bridges, roadways, airports, and other water control and stormwater projects.

Key Responsibilities: Water Resources interns will be expected to perform the following key responsibilities with the supervision and assistance of a Hanson Professional Engineer:

  • Data development using surveys, LiDAR, GIS, and CAD.
  • Research of local regulatory requirements specific to the project.
  • Definition of hydrologic parameters and calculation of design discharge rates using various methodologies.
  • Development of hydraulic analyses using calculations and computer models such as GIS, HY-8, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, XP-SWMM, StormCAD, and StormWise (ICPR)
  • Documentation for quality assurance
  • Report writing in support of project deliverables
  • Permitting application development in support of project permitting
  • Preparing plans, designs, specifications, and cost estimates
  • Data collection for the preparation of engineering analyses, reports and studies
  • Utilizing engineering software packages such as ArcMAP, MicroStation, HEC-RAS and SRH-2D
  • Conducting field investigations and/or survey assistance to gather information
  • Performing related duties such as writing memoranda, letters, or general reports; collecting and correlating engineering data; maintaining records; attending meetings; and operating technical equipment

Qualifications:

  • Interns must be actively enrolled in a relevant field of study such as Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources, or Coastal Engineering.
  • The ideal candidate, at minimum, will have successfully completed their sophomore or junior year and be actively enrolled in an accredited 4-year college or university.

Key requirements are listed but not limited to the following:

  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Valid driver's license

This position can be located in the following offices: Chicago, IL; Harlingen, TX; Sarasota, FL; or Springfield, IL.

The hourly range for this position is $21 - $26 per hour for undergraduates.

$30 - $40 per hour for postgraduates.
