They typically work under the supervision of senior quants in financial institutions, such as investment banks, hedge funds, or asset management firms. Their responsibilities often include data analysis, model development, programming, and assisting in the implementation of quantitative strategies. Junior quants usually have strong backgrounds in mathematics, statistics, finance, or computer science. This role is a starting point for building a career in quantitative finance.

Fiera Capital Corp.

Montreal, QC • Hybrid

Full-time

Re-posted 4 days ago

Job description

At Fiera Capital

We invest in creating a culture of purpose that makes our people feel valued, cared for, seen, and heard. Our approach to employee experience is tailored to your needs and ambitions:

  • Your Inclusive Experience: We are committed to cultivating an inclusive, safe, and trusting work environment.
  • Your Growth & Empowerment: We have ambitious growth goals for our firm, which makes us a great place to advance your career.
  • Your Rewards & Recognition: We deeply value our people and their contributions and that's reflected in our competitive compensation and benefits packages and our collaborative culture.
  • Your Wellness Your Way: We strive to create a healthy work environment and we offer programs designed to support our employees' wellbeing.

What we are looking for:

Positioned within the Public Markets division under Global Trading, our Implementation and Portfolio Rebalancing (IPR Private Wealth) team is pivotal to Fiera Capital's Private Wealth trading operations. As a Junior Analyst, you will play a crucial role in the implementation and rebalancing of client portfolios, making a direct impact on their financial outcomes. We are looking for proactive individuals who are ready to take the lead on initiatives, drive projects forward, and advocate for ongoing process enhancements within our structured team environment.

Your responsibilities:

As a Junior Analyst, your core responsibilities will include:

  • Order Generation: Efficiently rebalance Private Wealth client portfolios according to Investment Policy Statements (IPS) and tactical targets, manage trading operations including regular deposits, withdrawals, and fee adjustments, and align trading with private market fund capital calls and redemptions.
  • Model Implementation: Execute the implementation of segregated models across equities and bonds, ensuring alignment with client goals and market conditions.
  • Process Innovation: Take an active role in the design and enhancement of operational processes, pushing for automation and efficiency improvements in collaboration with stakeholders from across the firm.
  • Global Transformation Support: Contribute to the firm's global transformation efforts by sharing best practices and insights from the team's operations.
  • Client and Team Support: Assist Investment Counsellors and Management with detailed investment policy drafting and provide critical business information to support decision-making processes.

Must have requirements to be successful in this role:

  • Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in Finance, Mathematics, Actuarial Sciences, or another quantitative field.
  • Advanced Qualifications: A Master's degree in Finance, Financial Engineering, or Economics is highly desirable. Additional qualifications such as a CFA or CAIA designation, or risk management certifications like PRM or FRM are advantageous.
  • Relevant Experience: 1-3 years in investment management, client servicing, or operational roles within the financial services industry.
  • Performance Under Deadlines: Order generation runs on firm, often same-day timelines, with requests that can carry short turnarounds. This is a deadline-driven environment, and we look for candidates who stay organized, composed, and accurate under time pressure - and who genuinely thrive when the pace picks up.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in analytical and programming tools such as SQL, Python, Power BI, VBA for Excel, or comparable technologies, with a strong track record of applying these tools in handling complex data structures.
  • AI Fluency: Genuine fluency with AI and large language models (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini) - and the coding harnesses built on them (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot) - as everyday working tools, applied to real analytical and productivity challenges. We place strong value on candidates who actively follow the rapid pace of model releases and experiment independently to find where these tools can sharpen quantitative work. We are not looking for someone who has built AI systems from scratch - rather, an enthusiastic, self-directed user who treats these tools as integral to how the work gets done.
  • Innovative Thinking: An independent and critical thinker with a creative approach to problem-solving and process improvement. We look for candidates who are not only adept at routine tasks but are also capable of conceptualizing new solutions that enhance business efficiency.
  • Industry Knowledge: A solid understanding of asset management, financial markets, risk management, and investment performance metrics.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills in both French and English, capable of engaging effectively with stakeholders at all levels within the organization.

Additional Information:

  • Fiera Capital adheres to a hybrid working environment with 4 days in-office per week.
