The Edge browser is a core strategic product and key entry point to Microsoft's new AI ecosystem, serving hundreds of millions of users daily. As the hypercompetitive AI browser ecosystem evolves, the Edge team is focused on continuing to lead.
The Edge Web Platform team is looking for an exceptional Senior Software Engineer to join our Rendering team to help deliver high quality, interoperable web experiences by shaping how modern web content is rendered, animated, and interacted with across platforms. This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy deep systems and performance work, thrive in complex codebases, and want to shape how modern web content is rendered and interacted with by billions of users.

Starting January 26, 2026, Microsoft AI (MAI) employees who live within a 50- mile commute of a designated Microsoft office in the U.S. or 25-mile commute of a non-U.S., country-specific location are expected to work from the office at least four days per week. This expectation is subject to local law and may vary by jurisdiction.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and improve web platform features in Chromium rendering pipeline to bridge the gap between native applications and the web.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with engineers and program managers on open-source projects.
  • Partner with standards and upstream communities (W3C, Chromium) to shape APIs and implementation details.
  • Deliver web platform innovation in important areas of the browser engine with a focus on the needs of our customers and web developers.
  • Contribute directly to the Chromium project for aspects that can be shared with other Chromium-based browsers.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Cross-platform development experience.
  • Experience contributing to a large-scale software engineering project.
  • Design, coding, and debugging skills in modern programming languages.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year.
