Job description

Throughout the Gardner family’s ownership of Superior Trim, we have made, and continue to make, significant investments to ensure that Superior Trim has all of the appropriate technologies in-house and available to produce cost-competitive, high-quality interior and exterior trim products for medium/heavy duty trucks and other commercial vehicles that our customers expect

Superior Trim Springfield is looking for an engaged and energetic person who is currently enrolled in a bachelor's program focused on quality, supply chain, business, or related major, and is currently in their junior or senior year. 

Working with the Quality team, the intern will gain experience in real world writing of work instructions for a new product launch. This internship will cover the practices and procedures of writing work instructions from concept to implementation.

  • Responsibilities:
  • Draft, edit, and format detailed work instructions (WI) for manufacturing and support processes, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and consistency.
    • Observe production processes on the floor to accurately document step-by-step procedures, control points, and inspection requirements.
      • Collaborate with Quality Engineers, Production Supervisors, and Operators to validate content and ensure instructions reflect actual process conditions.
        • Convert existing knowledge (verbal instructions, legacy documents, tribal knowledge) into standardized, controlled documentation.
          • Ensure all work instructions follow company formatting, revision control, and document control requirements.
            • Incorporate quality requirements, such as inspection criteria, defect identification, and containment steps, into work instructions.
              • Support updates to work instructions based on process changes, corrective actions, or quality alerts.
                • Assist with maintaining a centralized system for controlled documents, including version tracking and archival of obsolete instructions.
                  • Add visual aids (photos, diagrams, flow steps) to improve operator understanding and reduce variation.
                    • Assist in translating technical processes into operator-friendly language to improve usability on the production floor.
                      • Participate in cross-functional reviews to validate that instructions reduce risk and support consistent production.
