Job description

PURPOSE

This isn't a traditional data engineering role focused solely on building pipelines and moving data from one system to another. This is a highly visible engineering position where you'll directly influence how business leaders make decisions across Merchandising, Supply Chain, Finance, Marketing, and Store Operations.

As a Senior Data Engineer, you'll help shape Floor & Decor's modern data platform while driving the company's migration from a legacy enterprise data warehouse to Databricks on Azure. You'll partner closely with business stakeholders, analytics teams, architects, and platform engineers to design scalable data products, solve complex business challenges, and deliver trusted data that powers critical decisions across the organization.

This role combines hands-on engineering, technical leadership, and business partnership. You'll own data products from design through production, build scalable cloud-native solutions, and help define best practices that support the future growth of Floor & Decor's data ecosystem.

Your Day Consists Of
  • Designing and building scalable data pipelines, data products, and integrations using Databricks, PySpark, Spark SQL, and Azure technologies
  • Partnering with business stakeholders to translate complex business requirements into reliable and efficient data solutions
  • Developing and maintaining Delta Lake tables, dimensional models, and cloud-native architectures that support enterprise analytics and reporting
  • Leveraging Python, SQL, Databricks, and Azure services to solve data quality, performance, and scalability challenges
  • Supporting Floor & Decor's strategic migration from SQL Server to Databricks by modernizing legacy workloads and improving data accessibility
  • Building automated monitoring, testing, and data quality frameworks that improve reliability and trust in enterprise data products
  • Collaborating with analytics engineers, architects, and platform teams to establish engineering standards and best practices
  • Leading technical initiatives, mentoring team members, and contributing to the evolution of Floor & Decor's modern data platform
You'll Be Successful With
  • Experience building and supporting enterprise-scale data platforms, data pipelines, and cloud-based data solutions
  • Strong expertise in Python, SQL, Databricks, Spark, Delta Lake, and modern data engineering practices
  • Experience designing dimensional models, lakehouse architectures, and scalable data products that support business decision-making
  • The ability to analyze complex technical and business challenges and translate them into practical, scalable solutions
  • Confidence partnering with technical teams and business stakeholders across multiple functions
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts and trade-offs to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • A proactive mindset with strong ownership, accountability, and the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Passion for continuous improvement, modern cloud technologies, and delivering high-quality engineering solutions
Minimum Eligibility Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience preferred
  • 5+ years of Data Engineering experience
  • Experience developing production-grade data pipelines and cloud-based data solutions
  • Strong proficiency with Python and SQL
  • Experience working with Databricks, Spark, Azure Data Services, or similar cloud data platforms
  • Experience with dimensional modeling, ETL/ELT design, and enterprise data architecture concepts
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience working in compliance-sensitive environments such as SOX, PCI, or regulated industries is a plus
Essential Functions
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and data products within Floor & Decor's Databricks platform
  • Develop cloud-native solutions that improve data accessibility, quality, reliability, and business value
  • Partner with stakeholders to gather requirements, define technical solutions, and deliver enterprise data products
  • Build and maintain Delta Lake tables, dimensional models, and curated datasets that support analytics and reporting needs
  • Support migration efforts from SQL Server EDW to Databricks by modernizing legacy workloads and validating business logic
  • Implement data quality controls, monitoring, alerting, and operational support processes
  • Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and engineering best practice initiatives
  • Document technical solutions, data models, and operational processes to support long-term maintainability
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing across the Data Engineering organization
  • Identify opportunities to improve platform performance, reduce technical debt, and increase engineering efficiency
  • Own data products through their full lifecycle, from requirements gathering and development through production support and continuous improvement
