Junior Project Manager / Project Engineer โ€“ Commercial & Industrial Electrical

We are seeking a motivated Junior Project Manager / Project Engineer to join our growing Commercial & Industrial (C&I) Electrical team in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. This position will work closely with the Senior Project Manager and field leadership to support the successful execution of commercial and industrial electrical construction projects from preconstruction through closeout.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of electrical construction, the ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and specifications, and a desire to continue developing their project management skills. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Project Engineer, Assistant Project Manager, or Field Engineer looking to take the next step in their career and grow into a Project Manager role.


The Junior Project Manager / Project Engineer will serve as an important link between project management, field operations, vendors, subcontractors, and clients, helping ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, within budget, and according to contract requirements.


Core Responsibilities


Project Management & Documentation

  • Support the Senior Project Manager in the day-to-day management and administration of electrical construction projects.
  • Maintain and organize project documentation, drawings, specifications, schedules, and correspondence.
  • Review and distribute drawing and specification revisions and ensure field teams are working from current documents.
  • Prepare, track, and process RFIs, submittals, and project document logs.
  • Assist with change order preparation, pricing, tracking, and documentation.
  • Coordinate project communications between the office, field personnel, vendors, subcontractors, and clients.

Procurement & Material Management

  • Assist with procurement and tracking of electrical materials and equipment.
  • Coordinate purchasing and delivery of general electrical materials, switchgear, lighting fixtures, electrical gear, and other project-specific equipment.
  • Track material lead times, deliveries, and potential procurement issues that could impact project schedules.
  • Work with vendors and suppliers to resolve material-related issues and maintain project timelines.

Scheduling & Field Coordination

  • Work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, and field crews to monitor project progress.
  • Track project milestones, manpower, productivity, and material requirements.
  • Identify potential schedule issues and communicate them to project leadership.
  • Participate in project meetings and assist with maintaining short-term and overall project schedules.
  • Help coordinate field activities with other trades, subcontractors, vendors, and customers.

Estimating & Financial Tracking

  • Review electrical drawings, specifications, and single-line diagrams to understand project scope.
  • Perform basic quantity take-offs and assist with pricing changes and additional work.
  • Assist with tracking project costs, commitments, budgets, and forecasts.
  • Review invoices, purchase orders, and subcontractor documentation as needed.
  • Assist with project billing, change order tracking, and monthly financial reporting.
  • Help identify potential cost overruns and opportunities to improve project profitability.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

  • Support the project team in maintaining a strong safety culture throughout the project.
  • Assist with ensuring work is performed in accordance with project specifications, applicable codes, and company standards.
  • Help track and resolve quality issues and coordinate corrective actions with field leadership.
  • Maintain accurate project records to support project compliance and successful turnover.

Project Closeout

  • Assist with compiling complete project closeout packages.
  • Coordinate and collect O&M manuals, as-built drawings, warranties, equipment documentation, test reports, and other turnover requirements.
  • Assist the Project Manager with final project documentation and client turnover.
  • Help ensure all outstanding project items are addressed prior to final completion.


Qualifications


Experience

  • 3โ€“4+ years of experience supporting commercial, industrial, or large-scale electrical construction projects.
  • Experience working for an electrical contractor, construction manager, engineering firm, or related organization.
  • Strong understanding of commercial and/or industrial electrical construction practices.

Technical Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical plans, specifications, wiring diagrams, and single-line diagrams.
  • Understanding of electrical construction materials, equipment, and installation practices.
  • Ability to perform basic electrical quantity take-offs and review project scope.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

Software & Computer Skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Experience with Bluebeam preferred.
  • Familiarity with Procore, AutoCAD, Accubid, or other construction/project management and estimating platforms.
  • Strong computer skills and proficient typing ability.

Communication & Leadership

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with field personnel, project managers, vendors, subcontractors, and clients.
  • Highly organized, dependable, and proactive.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to anticipate and address project issues before they become problems.
  • Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a project team.

Education

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of electrical construction experience, technical training, and on-the-job experience will be considered.
