Job description

BROOKLYN GRANGE (DESIGN/BUILD DEPARTMENT)
JOB TITLE: Junior Landscape Designer + Project Manager
LOCATION: New York City (with travel to project sites across the five boroughs)
JOB TYPE: Full Time - Hourly
About Brooklyn Grange
Brooklyn Grange is a leading urban landscape design, installation, and maintenance firm specializing in green roofs, rooftop farms, terraces, courtyards, and public-facing spaces. Our work blends ecological function with thoughtful design, creating landscapes that are as resilient as they are visually compelling.
Position Overview
This hybrid role sits at the intersection of design and execution. The Junior Landscape Architect / Junior Project Manager will support the full lifecycle of projects-from concept development through construction-while helping ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and at a high design standard.
This is an ideal role for someone early in their career who wants hands-on exposure to both creative design and the realities of building complex urban landscapes.
Key Responsibilities
Design Support
  • Assist in developing landscape designs, planting plans, and material palettes
  • Produce drawings, renderings, submittals, and presentation materials (AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Suite)
  • Support site analysis
  • Contribute to design development for rooftops, terraces, streetscapes, and amenity spaces

Project Management
  • Support project managers in coordinating active jobs from pre-construction through installation
  • Help manage timelines, budgets, and procurement of materials
  • Coordinate with internal crews, subcontractors, and external consultants (architects, engineers, developers)
  • Track project progress, document changes, and maintain organized records
  • Develop project estimates and budgets

Field & Construction Involvement
  • Participate in site visits, measurements, and inspections
  • Assist with construction oversight and quality control
  • Help troubleshoot design and installation challenges in real time
  • Ensure adherence to design intent and company standards

Client & Team Communication
  • Prepare client-facing materials and presentations
  • Participate in meetings and take detailed notes / follow-ups
  • Collaborate closely with design, operations, and maintenance teams
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Landscape Architecture or related field
  • 0-3 years of relevant experience (internships included)
  • Strong design sensibility with attention to detail
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD required; familiarity with Rhino, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suite preferred
  • Interest in urban ecology, green infrastructure, and sustainable design
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to engage both in-office and in the field
What We're Looking For
  • Someone who is equally excited about design and getting their hands dirty on-site
  • A self-starter who takes initiative and follows through
  • Comfort operating in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Curiosity about how projects actually get built-not just how they look on paper
Growth Opportunity
This role offers a clear path toward Project Manager and Landscape Architect positions, with increasing responsibility over design ownership, client relationships, and project delivery.
Compensation & Benefits
  • A progressive work environment as part of a small and enthusiastic team
  • $25 - $28 per hour, commensurate with experience.
  • Comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance
  • Paid Time Off and Paid Holidays, Family, Medical, Bereavement, and other applicable leave
  • Participation in the company's retirement benefit
  • Discounted Employee CSA offering
  • Discounts to Brooklyn Grange events and workshops, and access to NYC's most delicious vegetables when in season

To apply:
  • Submit cover letter and resume
  • Position open until filled
