Job description

Senior Project Engineer (MSP – SMB Infrastructure)

We are seeking a highly capable, hands-on Senior Project Engineer to join our Project Deployment Team. This role is focused on delivering infrastructure projects for small and medium-sized business clients in a fast-paced Managed Services Provider (MSP) environment.

This role focuses exclusively on technical execution and implementation; project coordination and scheduling are handled by a dedicated Project Manager. It is a technical, execution-focused position for an engineer who is confident working directly with infrastructure, networking, and Microsoft cloud environments. The successful candidate will independently implement solutions, lead client-facing deployments, and support junior technicians through real-world project delivery.

We are looking for someone with solid MSP experience who enjoys working in the field, solving problems directly, and completing full infrastructure implementations from start to finish.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and execute SMB infrastructure projects from planning through implementation and completion

• Deploy and support FortiGate and/or SonicWall firewalls, including VPNs, VLANs, and basic security configurations

• Install and configure managed switches, wireless access points, and SMB network infrastructure (Ubiquiti and similar platforms)

• Perform Windows Server, Active Directory, and basic virtualization (Hyper-V or VMware) deployments and support

• Lead Microsoft 365 migrations including Exchange Online, user mailbox moves, OneDrive, and SharePoint migrations for SMB environments

• Configure and support Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) and basic identity management

• Participate in onsite deployments and infrastructure replacements, including after-hours work when required

• Troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues across networking, server, and cloud environments

• Provide informal technical guidance and support to junior engineers during project execution

• Maintain clear and accurate project documentation and implementation notes

Required Experience

• 5–8 years of experience in an MSP or client-facing IT services environment

• Strong hands-on experience with Fortinet and/or SonicWall firewalls

• Solid understanding of networking fundamentals including VLANs, VPNs, routing, switching, and wireless

• Experience deploying and supporting SMB Microsoft 365 environments

• Experience with SharePoint and OneDrive migrations (SMB scale)

• Experience with Windows Server and Active Directory environments

• Experience with VMware to Hyper-V migrations

• Proven ability to work independently onsite and complete infrastructure deployments

• Experience with Ubiquiti switching and wireless systems

Nice to Have

• Exposure to Intune and endpoint management

• Experience with 3CX VoIP deployments

• Basic scripting or automation experience

• Microsoft and Fortinet certifications

What Success Looks Like

• You can independently design and implement SMB infrastructure solutions end-to-end with minimal supervision

• You are comfortable onsite, working directly in client environments for project work

• You reliably deliver Microsoft 365, networking, and server projects end-to-end

• You troubleshoot effectively across network, server, and cloud systems

• Junior technicians look to you for practical, hands-on guidance during deployments

• Clients see you as a confident, capable technical resource who gets things done

Compensation

$80,000 – $90,000 annually depending on experience and demonstrated capability
