Job Summary: The SharePoint Intranet Developer is responsible for designing, building, and enhancing the credit union's intranet and collaboration solutions using SharePoint Online and related Microsoft 365 technologies. This role focuses on creating secure, user-friendly, and well-governed sites and solutions that support internal communication, knowledge sharing, workflows, and employee productivity across ORNL Federal Credit Union.
Working closely with Information Technology teams, Communications/HR, Compliance, and business units, the SharePoint Intranet Developer gathers requirements, designs site structures and page layouts, configures and customizes SharePoint components, and develops low-code/no-code solutions to streamline internal processes. This position ensures intranet content and solutions comply with the credit union's security, branding, accessibility, and regulatory standards (e.g., NCUA, GLBA, FFIEC).
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
  • Intranet Architecture, Design & Development: Designs, builds, and maintains the credit union's SharePoint Online intranet, including site architecture, navigation, page templates, and content layouts. Creates and maintains modern SharePoint pages and components (web parts, news posts, hubs) that follow credit union branding, style, and accessibility standards. Develops and configures intranet solutions using out-of-the-box SharePoint capabilities, Microsoft 365 features, and low-code tools (e.g., Power Automate, Power Apps). Implements and supports content types, metadata, document libraries, and taxonomy to improve search, findability, and information governance.
  • Business Collaboration & Content Support: Collaborates with business stakeholders to gather requirements and translates them into user-friendly SharePoint sites, pages, lists, libraries, and workflows. Partners with Communications/HR to support internal communications, news, announcements, employee resources, and corporate content areas. Assists with content migration projects, including planning, mapping, cleanup, and execution from legacy platforms or file shares into SharePoint Online.
  • Automation, Workflows & Integration: Develops and supports workflows and automation (primarily in Power Automate) to streamline internal processes such as requests, approvals, onboarding, and documentation updates. Integrates SharePoint with Microsoft 365 tools (Teams, OneDrive, Viva, Power Platform) to create a cohesive digital workplace experience.
  • Security, Permissions & Governance: Configures permissions and security for SharePoint sites and content, ensuring least-privilege access and alignment with Information Security and compliance policies. Participates in the development and enforcement of SharePoint and intranet governance, including site provisioning standards, content lifecycle, and archiving.
  • Support, Troubleshooting & Operations: Provides Tier 2/3 support for SharePoint-related issues, enhancements, and service requests, including troubleshooting permissions, page layouts, and workflow errors. Monitors intranet usage, site performance, and content quality; recommends improvements to enhance usability, engagement, and effectiveness.
  • Documentation, Training & Adoption: Creates and maintains documentation for intranet architecture, site templates, governance, and standard operating procedures. Supports training and adoption efforts by developing user guides, quick reference materials, and delivering training or demonstrations to staff and content owners.
  • Continuous Improvement & Roadmap Awareness: Stays current with SharePoint Online and Microsoft 365 roadmap items and recommends relevant features that can improve the intranet and internal processes.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Hybrid Remote Statement: Following initial onboarding and training, this position may transition to a hybrid remote work arrangement, allowing performance of job duties to be completed both from home and on-site, with a structured schedule designed to support flexibility, business objectives, and consistent collaboration.
Work Experience: Three or more years of experience designing and developing solutions in SharePoint Online (and/or SharePoint 2016+), with a focus on intranet and collaboration sites is required.
  • Required Hands-on experience -

  • Experience working in a regulated environment (financial services, banking, or similar) with awareness of compliance, security, and data governance needs is preferred.

Education, Licenses, and Certifications:
  • Bachelors Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Web Design/Development, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience is required.
  • Preferred Certification/License
    • Microsoft 365 Certified: Developer Associate or Teams/Collaboration-related certifications
    • Microsoft 365 Certified: Fundamentals (MS-900)
    • Any relevant UX/UI, web design, or SharePoint-specific training/certifications

Other skills required:
