Job description

Join the Leader in Healthcare Communication Technology

At Rauland, we're proud to be the leading provider of Nurse Call Systems in the United States, delivering technology that helps care teams communicate quickly and provide timely, lifesaving care across both acute and postacute settings. Our solutions support clinicians and patients when it matters most, and data is at the heart of everything we build.

We're expanding our software organization and seeking a Database Engineer  to join our team who is passionate about building reliable, highperformance systems that power missioncritical healthcare applications and play a critical role in the design, optimization, and support of our data platforms. This position blends hands-on SQL development with database engineering responsibilities, offering the opportunity to build and enhance database solutions that power business-critical applications. You will partner closely with Product Owners, software engineers, and cross-functional teams to design scalable data solutions, optimize performance, modernize existing architectures, and ensure the reliability of production systems. The ideal candidate enjoys both developing robust T-SQL solutions and solving complex database infrastructure, performance, and operational challenges.

What You'll Do:

  • Collaborate with Product Owners, Scrum Teams, and stakeholders to understand business requirements and design effective, scalable database solutions that support application and reporting needs.
  • Identify and drive opportunities to modernize and optimize data platforms through improvements to ETL processes, database architecture, data models, and data warehouse design.
  • Develop, enhance, and maintain high-quality T-SQL code, including stored procedures, views, functions, and schema changes that align with evolving application requirements.
  • Mentor and support software engineers in database development best practices, including stored procedure design and SQL performance optimization.
  • Analyze and improve database performance through query tuning, indexing strategies, execution plan analysis, and optimization of stored procedures.
  • Design, build, and support ETL processes, including incremental data loads, logging frameworks, error handling, and data quality validation.
  • Create, maintain, and troubleshoot SQL Server Agent jobs and scheduled processes to ensure reliable and efficient data operations.
  • Partner with Production, Field Service, and Technical Support teams to diagnose and resolve database-related issues, including performance bottlenecks, blocking, deadlocks, timeouts, and job failures.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including runbooks, data flow diagrams, operational procedures, and release readiness checklists to support knowledge sharing and system reliability.
  • Participate in Agile development activities, production support rotations, business continuity testing, and cross-functional collaboration with teams across the U.S. and global locations while adapting to changing priorities and business needs.

Do You Have?...

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience in a relevant Technical / Business field.
  • 2+ years of Microsoft SQL Server development (T-SQL, schema changes, basic data modeling)
  • Experience tuning queries using execution plans and indexing fundamentals
  • Exposure to SSIS tool or ETL/ELT processes (development, support, migration from one tool to another; and troubleshooting)
  • Willingness to learn and apply scripting/automation (e.g., PowerShell with SQL Agent or other database-related automation)
  • Comfortable supporting production issues in a team environment (triage, communication, documentation)
  • Works well in Scrum/Agile: can break work into stories/tasks and communicate status clearly
  • Communicates tradeoffs and asks good questions (scalability, performance, reliability, deployment risk, maintainability)
  • Collaborates with engineers through code reviews, and sharing SQL best practices
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to use AI tools to improve productivity, decision-marking, work quality, and to reduce costs.  The successful candidate must be able to identify appropriate AI use cases and critically evaluate AI-generated outputs

Got This? Even Better...

  • Exposure to SQL Server Always On Availability Groups (monitoring, basic troubleshooting, participation in failover tests)
  • Familiarity with data warehouse concepts (facts/dimensions, incremental loads, SCD awareness)
  • Familiarity with SSIS, python, dbt or similar ETL/ELT processes
  • Familiarity with source control for database scripts (Git/Azure DevOps)
  • Familiarity with ticketing/work tracking tools (Azure DevOps/ADO, Jira, or similar)
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn Power BI or similar reporting/BI tools (e.g., SSRS, Tableau)
  •
