Job description

S'more about the team

Our operation planning team is focused on optimizing our planning processes and forecasting capabilities. We're a globally distributed team operating across 7+ brands in 15+ countries, building desirable products and seamless, engaging experiences that customers haven't seen before. With many exciting projects underway, we're driven to generate the next billion-dollar business-so if you're passionate about tackling bold challenges, join us!

We are a close-knit group of engineers of different stripes - developers, designers, and product owners - who are working together to solve interesting e-commerce and supply chain problems around how people eat. Sometimes, this involves implementing features to improve the user
journey and making it easier for our customers to buy amazing food. Other times, this means creating stable software solutions that keep our distribution centers running.

We are looking for a midlevel engineer to help implement solutions & write beautiful code, working with various team members as we build out our operation planning infrastructure that supports internal teams. As a member of our Toronto team, you'll work with highly-skilled engineers, who in collaboration with our other global teams, have turned HelloFresh into the #1 meal delivery service in the world!

Lettuce share what this role will be responsible for

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable and reliable back-end services, focusing on distributed architecture and microservices.
  • Lead the migration of critical services from a monolithic architecture to a microservices framework, ensuring seamless integration and high availability.
  • Conduct code reviews and provide mentorship to junior engineers, promoting best practices in software development, testing, and deployment.
  • Analyze system performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimizations to ensure optimal efficiency and reliability of pricing services.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies, applying relevant advancements to improve the team's technology stack and processes.
  • Contribute to architectural discussions and decisions, providing technical guidance and insights to shape the overall direction of solution design.
  • Work beyond your specialization when the problem demands it. Your specialization is your anchor, not your boundary.
  • Operate what you build. You instrument, monitor, and improve your systems in production. Shipping is the beginning of the learning cycle, not the end.
  • All other duties, as assigned

Sound a-peeling? Here's what we're looking for

  • Hands-on experience working with AI tooling (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) beyond casual experimentation. You use AI agents every day. You have a practical sense of how the context you provide to AI tools shapes output quality, and how to set boundaries on AI-generated work.
  • Experience: Experience in software engineering, with a strong focus on back-end development and system architecture.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in back-end technologies and programming languages (e.g., Python, SQL, Go) and a deep understanding of distributed systems and microservices architecture.
  • Migration Expertise: Hands-on experience in migrating applications from monolithic architectures to microservices, demonstrating problem-solving capabilities and technical leadership.
  • Cloud Proficiency: Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and container orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) for deploying and managing services at scale.
  • Agile Methodologies: Solid experience in Agile development practices, with an ability to adapt to changing priorities and deliver high-quality results on time.
  • Mentorship Skills: Strong mentorship abilities, with a passion for guiding and developing junior engineers while fostering a collaborative team culture.
  • Analytical Mindset: Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving technical challenges.
  • Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills, capable of articulating complex technical concepts to diverse audiences and collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • You take full ownership. You have a bias to ship. You finish the last twenty percent.
  • You have product sense and are opinionated about what should be built and why, and you can back that opinion with data and user evidence.

Let's cut to the cheese, this is why you'll love it here

  • Box Discount - Amazing discounts on 1 box per week! 75% discount on weekly HelloFresh and Chefs Plate meal kits AND 50% off weekly Factor meal box.
  • Health & Wellness - Health & Dental benefits from day 1, a Health Spending Account, unlimited access to the Headspace app to meet your self-care needs, and 25% discount on GoodLife fitness memberships!
  • RRSP Matching - Competitive RRSP matching program offered
  • Vacation & PTO - Time off is also an important part of self-care! We offer generous vacation and PTO to help you create a good work-life balance.
  • Family Benefits - A parental leave top-up program for expectant parents.
  • Growth & Development - We support your career progression and invest in your continued learning through experiences and initiatives owned by our dedicated L&D team
