Job description

Do you want to shape how fast Amazon can deliver to hundreds of millions of customers? The Sub-Same-Day (SSD) team builds the technology behind Amazon's fastest delivery promises across India and Emerging Marketplaces - getting orders to customers in hours, not days.
We're looking for a Software Development Engineer II who wants to own high-scale, low-latency systems that directly move the speed and reliability customers see at checkout. You'll design and build services that compute and optimize the fastest reliable delivery promise for every order.
-Build customer-facing systems at massive scale and single-digit-millisecond latency
-Own features end-to-end, from design through production and operations
-Directly impact conversion, delivery speed, and customer trust across 10+ marketplaces
Key job responsibilities
-Design, build, and operate scalable, low-latency, highly available services that power SSD delivery promises.
-Own features end-to-end - requirements, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing operations.
-Lead design discussions and independently drive alignment with partner teams (Promise, transportation, search etc. ).
-Uphold operational excellence: monitoring, alarming, on-call, and driving down defects and tickets.
-Dive deep on edge cases, testing, and safe production rollouts (canary deployments, metrics, dashboards).
-Proactively identify and mitigate risks; communicate progress, blockers, and tradeoffs clearly.
-Mentor SDE-1s and junior engineers - review code and designs, unblock them, and raise the technical bar.
-Contribute to the team's technical roadmap and continuous improvement of our systems.
A day in the life
You'll partner with product managers, applied scientists, and engineering teams across Promise, ATROPS, transportation, and DEX to ship features that make delivery faster and more reliable. A typical day includes a team standup, design and code reviews, hands-on development, and digging into production metrics. You'll take part in operational excellence and on-call to keep our services healthy. Beyond delivery, we invest in learning and fun - quarterly hackathons and fortnightly GenAI brown-bag sessions where the team explores new technology together.
About the team
The Sub-Same-Day (SSD) team owns the technology behind Amazon's fastest delivery experiences across India and Emerging Marketplaces (AU, BR, MX, AE, SA, SG, EG, TR, ZA). Our mission is to give every customer the fastest reliable promise we can keep - and to extend same-day and sub-same-day speed to new marketplaces and customers. We're a high-ownership, customer-obsessed team that values deep technical work, operational excellence, and continuous learning. We move fast, support each other, and celebrate wins together.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience
- 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience
- 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience
- Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
