Job Description

Atlas is seeking a Senior Environmental Compliance Specialist to provide technical leadership, project oversight, and client-focused environmental compliance consulting services. This person could work remote or hybrid from anywhere in the New England area (Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut)

This role serves as a Northeast Regional Environmental Compliance subject matter expert, supporting multi-media regulatory compliance programs while mentoring staff, managing client projects, and contributing to business development initiatives. This role supports a diverse portfolio of public- and private-sector clients, including municipal, educational, and government agencies, as well as commercial, industrial, retail, energy, and real estate organizations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a regional environmental compliance subject matter expert, providing technical guidance and regulatory interpretation to project teams and clients

  • Manage and oversee environmental compliance projects ensuring delivery within scope, schedule, budget, and quality standards

  • Provide QA/QC reviews of technical reports, plans, permit applications, and proposals

  • Lead environmental compliance audits, regulatory applicability reviews, and corrective actions

  • Prepare and review environmental permits and compliance programs across air, hazardous waste, stormwater, wastewater, SPCC, and AST/UST programs

  • Support and audit Environmental Management Systems (EMS), including ISO 14001-based programs

  • Collaborate on business development, including proposals, SOQs, and client interviews

  • Mentor and train junior and mid-level staff

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related discipline; Master’s preferred

  • 10+ years of environmental compliance experience with project leadership responsibilities

  • Expertise in federal, state, and local regulations (RCRA, CAA, NPDES, DOT)

  • Multi-state, multi-media compliance consulting experience

  • Professional licensure or certification preferred (PE, CHMM, CSP, MA TURP)

  • Strong project management, technical writing, and communication skills

  • Ability to travel approximately 20%
