Java Developer
Location : Remote
Overview:
The Java Developer supports application analysis, code review, and modernization initiatives by analyzing existing Java-based systems and translating technical functionality into clear business requirements. This role focuses on understanding legacy and modern Java applications, identifying business logic, and collaborating closely with Business Analysts and stakeholders to ensure accurate system interpretation.
The developer bridges the gap between technical and functional teams by documenting system behavior, supporting testing efforts, and contributing to modernization strategies. This position requires strong analytical skills, experience with Java frameworks, and the ability to work with complex, enterprise-level applications.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyze existing Java applications to understand business logic, workflows, and system behavior.
  • Review source code across frameworks such as Spring, Java EE, Struts, and EJB to identify business rules, data flows, and integration points.
  • Collaborate with Business Analysts to translate technical functionality into business-friendly requirements.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, including functional specifications, process flows, data mappings, and technical design documents.
  • Support modernization efforts by identifying reusable components, dependencies, and opportunities for system improvement.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and clarifying system behavior during testing and validation phases.
  • Participate in architecture and design discussions with developers, architects, and stakeholders.
  • Perform technical analysis on defects and enhancements, including root cause identification and solution development.
  • Develop software components, recommend database schema changes, and ensure adherence to industry standards and best practices.

Required Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • 4 years of experience in software development using Java technologies, including:
    • Core Java
    • Spring Framework and/or Spring Boot
    • REST APIs
    • Apache Struts
    • Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB)
    • Other Java EE design patterns
  • 4 years of experience working with relational databases such as Oracle Database or Microsoft SQL Server.
  • 4 years of experience using version control systems such as Git.
  • 4 years of experience troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • 4 years of experience managing multiple tasks, meeting deadlines, and producing high-quality work in dynamic environments.
  • 4 years of experience demonstrating strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • 2 years of experience working with Unix/Linux environments and shell scripting (Bourne/Korn shell).
  • Availability to support code deployments and application support activities during evenings or weekends as needed.

Preferred Experience:
  • 4 years of experience using GoAnywhere MFT.
  • 4 years of experience with databases, including advanced proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server.
  • 4 years of experience using Azure DevOps or other distributed version control and CI/CD tools.
  • 4 years of experience supporting application modernization or migration initiatives.
  • 4 years of experience working in regulated industries such as government, healthcare, or oil and gas.
  • 4 years of experience with service-oriented architecture (SOA), microservices, and RESTful APIs (primarily as a consumer).
  • 4 years of experience working with PDF generation or manipulation tools such as iText.
