Job Title: SAP Developer / Global Support Manager (IT - Admin / SAP Basis Architect)

Location: Columbia, SC
Duration: 12 Months (Contract)


Project Overview

A public sector organization is seeking an experienced SAP Basis Architect / SAP Developer (Global Support Manager) to provide architecture guidance and Basis administration support. The role involves design, installation, testing, upgrades, and ongoing maintenance of SAP systems and third-party applications within a Microsoft and SQL-based environment.

  • SRM 7.04, BW 7.5, PI 7.5
  • Solution Manager 7.2
  • Fiori Launchpad & Gateway (NetWeaver 7.52)
  • Business Objects 4.3
  • Microsoft Windows Server (2012-2025) & SQL Server (2014-2019)
  • VMware-based virtualized infrastructure

Key ResponsibilitiesSolution Architecture & Strategy
  • Collaborate with technical and functional teams to define SAP implementation and maintenance strategies
  • Assist in hardware planning and system landscape design
  • Develop high-level implementation roadmaps
  • Provide input on testing strategies and validation plans
  • Evaluate and leverage new SAP technologies and capabilities

SAP Basis Administration
  • Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain SAP systems and add-on components
  • Perform enhancement pack upgrades, system copies, and refreshes
  • Apply support packs, OSS notes, and patches
  • Manage transport systems across multi-system landscapes
  • Configure and monitor system performance, health checks, and background jobs
  • Conduct workload, system, and database performance analysis and tuning
  • Establish OSS and EarlyWatch connections
  • Ensure optimal disk layout, file systems, and OS-level performance

Technical Support & Operations
  • Provide support for a multi-system SAP landscape (5+ systems)
  • Troubleshoot system issues and perform root cause analysis
  • Analyze impact of new SAP releases on existing environments
  • Support third-party integrations (e.g., tax, forms, reporting tools)
  • Assist project and production teams in deploying solutions

Collaboration & Leadership
  • Provide technical consulting to development, functional, and integration teams
  • Mentor junior Basis administrators and team members
  • Participate in cross-functional and technical projects
  • Lead or contribute to system enhancements and implementation initiatives

Training & Documentation
  • Develop detailed technical and process documentation
  • Conduct knowledge transfer sessions via training and peer coaching
  • Provide clear communication to stakeholders, users, and management

General Responsibilities
  • Ensure timely communication of risks, issues, and updates
  • Maintain adherence to project timelines and deadlines
  • Support after-hours activities as required

Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in SAP Basis / ABAP solution architecture
  • 10+ years of SAP ABAP/Java installation and configuration
  • 10+ years of SAP upgrades, enhancement packs, OSS notes, and troubleshooting
  • 5+ years of experience with SAP NetWeaver platforms
  • 5+ years of SAP experience in the public sector
  • Strong expertise in Microsoft Windows Server (2012-2025)
  • Strong experience with SQL Server (2014-2019)
  • Experience working in virtualized environments (VMware)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting ECC 6.0, SRM, BW, and Fiori environments
  • Strong SAP architecture and system design expertise
  • Experience with SAP upgrades and enhancement packs
  • Proficiency with MS Office tools (Word, Excel, Visio, Project)
  • Project management experience
