What is a junior interactive designer?

Junior Interactive Designers are entry-level professionals who create engaging digital experiences, such as websites, apps, and interactive media. They work closely with senior designers and developers to bring concepts to life through layout, animation, and user interface design. Their responsibilities often include assisting with wireframes, prototypes, and visual assets while learning and applying best practices in user-centered design. This role is ideal for individuals starting their careers in digital design and looking to build skills in both creativity and technology.

What are some common challenges junior interactive designers face when starting out, and how can they overcome them?

Junior Interactive Designers often encounter challenges such as adapting to fast-paced project timelines, learning to interpret client feedback constructively, and balancing creativity with usability. Working closely with senior designers and collaborating regularly with developers can help bridge knowledge gaps and improve workflow efficiency. Seeking feedback, participating in design critiques, and familiarizing oneself with common design tools and prototyping software are effective ways to build confidence and grow in the role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a junior interactive designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Junior Interactive Designer, you need a strong grasp of design principles, user experience (UX), and proficiency in visual design, often supported by a relevant degree or portfolio. Familiarity with design and prototyping tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, and Sketch is typically required. Creativity, attention to detail, and effective communication help you collaborate on projects and translate ideas into engaging digital experiences. These skills are essential for producing user-friendly interfaces that meet project goals and client expectations.

Job description

Paradigm is a software company transforming the way that the residential, construction & building product industries operate across the globe. We are looking for a Staff Product Manager – Builder Solutions to be part of revolutionizing these industries. We are building the future of how homes are designed, estimated, and built by revolutionizing construction workflows with modern software engineering, agent-assisted systems, and mobile-first experiences. We are powered by our parent company, Builders FirstSource (NYSE: BLDR): a Fortune 300 company with over $23 billion in revenue and more than 29,000 employees across 550+ locations, BFS is redefining construction through data, digital infrastructure, and AI-powered innovation.

Builder Solutions includes 3D visualization and configuration platform for homebuilders. It powers interactive walkthroughs, homebuyer configurators, whole-home marketing imagery, and static room visuals used for lead generation, all built on digital twins of builder home plans.

Behind every customer-facing experience is a production pipeline: the internal tools, modeling workflows, artistry processes, and operational systems that turn architectural plans into accurate, interactive 3D models at scale. We’re hiring a Staff Product Manager – Builder Solutions to own the internal tools and production workflows that create, manage, and scale digital twins of builder homes. You’ll drive hands-on improvements to how models are built, reducing cycle times, raising quality, and building the tooling foundation for the next phase of scale.

What You Will Do:
  • Own the vision and roadmap for the end-to-end production ecosystem including the pipeline that transforms architectural plans into digital twins and the internal modeling tools used for geometry creation, material application, lighting, and scene assembly.

  • Define and track operational metrics for model creation speed, accuracy, and cost. Establish SLAs and ensure the tooling captures the data needed to measure progress against them.

  • Identify and eliminate bottlenecks that constrain throughput, whether they are tooling gaps, manual handoffs or unclear modeling guidelines.

  • Contribute to the architectural direction for how digital twins are structured, collaborated upon, versioned, and stored, working with engineering leadership to ensure models can be updated, reconfigured, and reused efficiently as builders change plans, options, and selections over time.

  • Define requirements and priorities for artistry tools that control visual quality expected from customers and suppliers. This includes textures, finishes, color accuracy, and photorealism, ensuring output meets builder and buyer expectations across use cases (marketing imagery, interactive walkthroughs, configurators).

  • Drive tooling improvements that reduce the skill ceiling for model creation and artistry, enabling more team members to produce high-quality output without deep 3D expertise.

  • Work with engineering to evaluate build-vs-buy decisions for production tooling, including where emerging technologies (procedural generation, AI-assisted modeling, automated texturing) can accelerate the pipeline.

  • Contribute to and help evolve the modeling guidelines and standards that govern how digital twins are built, covering geometry conventions, material libraries, naming standards, and quality checks.

  • Design and improve the operational workflows that production teams follow from plan intake to model delivery, optimizing for parallelism, clear handoff points, and consistent quality at each stage.

  • Build feedback loops between the production team and the tooling roadmap, ensuring the tools evolve based on real operator pain points, not assumptions.

  • Build data-backed narratives that connect pipeline improvements to customer-facing outcomes, such as faster delivery timelines, lower cost per model, and higher visual quality, to support investment decisions by senior leadership.

  • Partner closely with the customer-facing Builder Solutions PM team to ensure the production pipeline is aligned with market demands, understanding which use cases drive the most value and how model requirements differ across them.

  • Drive alignment between engineering, the modeling/artistry production team, and business stakeholders to resolve trade-offs between speed, quality, and cost.

  • Mentor junior PMs and serve as a thought partner for peers on internal tooling product management, a discipline that requires deep empathy for operational users and strong judgment about when to invest in tooling vs. process improvements.

  • Stay current on advances in 3D modeling, real-time rendering, procedural content generation, and AI-assisted design to inform the tooling roadmap.

  • Identify and prioritize high-impact feature enhancements that measurably reduce the lifecycle of a single-family home model, from initial ingest to "production ready."

  • Build tools that connect technical requirements to real-world use by automating compliance and making it easier for modelers to meet platform standards.

  • Define the product needs for integrated collaboration tools to streamline communication between internal teams, builders, and external modelers, based around a model.

  • Shape the requirements for a software-agnostic 3D schema, ensuring our platform remains flexible and future-proof regardless of the originating modeling software.

  • Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to validate that tool enhancements are driving business value, improving model throughput, and maintaining platform performance.

  • Maintain a robust backlog, break projects into attainable milestones, and prioritize based on impact and feasibility.

What You Need to Succeed:
  • 6+ years of experience in Product Management, with at least 2 years owning internal tools, production platforms, content pipelines, or developer/creator tooling at a Senior PM level or above.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Design, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to improve operational workflows through product and tooling investments, not just shipping features, but measurably improving throughput, quality, and cost of a production operation.

  • Strong technical fluency in at least one of the following: 3D graphics/rendering pipelines, content creation tooling, 3D modeling (specifically residential construction), or production workflow systems.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate internal operational improvements into business impact narratives for senior-level stakeholders.

  • Proven ability to create clarity in ambiguous environments, defining the roadmap, standards, and success metrics for production systems where none previously existed.

  • Deep empathy for internal users. You understand that the people operating your tools every day are your customers, and you treat their problems with the same rigor as external-facing product work.

Beneficial Skills and Knowledge:
  • Experience in 3D visualization, game development, architecture/design technology, or digital twin platforms.

  • Familiarity with 3D architecture authoring tools (Revit, Higharc, Chief Architect, etc.) and visualization tools (Blender, 3ds Max, SketchUp, Unreal, Unity), plus an understanding of the modeling and artistry production process.

  • Experience scaling creative or production operations, managing the tension between quality, speed, and team growth in content-heavy environments.

  • Background in construction technology, homebuilding, or building product industries.

  • Experience evaluating or implementing AI/ML-assisted content creation tools in a production context.
