TITLE: High School Math Teacher (1 Year Only) - Portland High School
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Portland Public Schools seeks a skilled Math Teacher to join the team at Portland High School for a 1-year-only position. We are looking for a personable, collaborative, and student-centered educator with strong knowledge of Algebra and Geometry. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to equitable teaching practices, a willingness to work closely with colleagues, and the ability to support a diverse group of students in a heterogeneous classroom setting.
Under the direction of the school Principal, the Math Teacher plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students. The teacher creates an atmosphere and environment that supports the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of all learners, ensuring success for every student. This position includes supervising students in a variety of school-related settings, monitoring and evaluating student outcomes, communicating with students, families, staff, and the community, and developing, selecting, and modifying instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students. The Math Teacher also maintains appropriate records, follows required procedures and practices, and monitors the appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Implementing state learning standards and Portland High School curricula and assessments to give all students access to rigorous and engaging grade-level work
  • Teaching high school mathematics, with a focus on Algebra and Geometry
  • Planning and delivering lessons that are clear, engaging, and aligned to curriculum standards
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues to improve student outcomes through analysis of student work, adjustments in instruction, and shared teaching strategies
  • Supporting students with a wide range of academic needs, learning styles, and backgrounds
  • Managing behavior in a way that aligns with school-wide expectations and protocols and is clear, consistent, equitable, and student-centered
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with students and families based on trust, understanding, and respect
  • Contributing positively to the math department and the larger Portland High School community

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Strong knowledge of Algebra and Geometry
  • Understanding of effective instructional practices and differentiation strategies for heterogeneous classrooms
