Job description
- Lead and support the planning and development of active transportation facilities, including shared-use paths, trails, bike lanes, and complete streets
- Manage corridor studies, concept studies, active transportation plans, feasibility studies, and NEPA/PEL-related planning efforts
- Prepare and review technical memoranda, reports, and planning documents for transportation and trail projects
- Lead and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including traffic, drainage, roadway, structures, utilities, and right-of-way
- Lead project management activities, including scope, schedule, budget, and quality control
- Analyze transportation, land use, and mobility data to inform planning recommendations
- Assist with and play a key role in public and stakeholder engagement efforts, including meetings, workshops, and presentations
- Communicate technical information clearly through strong written deliverables and verbal presentations
- Mentor junior staff and contribute to a collaborative team environment
- Lead business development and client relationship efforts as appropriate
- Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, Civil Engineering, or a related field (required)
- 15+ years of experience in transportation planning and/or multimodal project development
- Experience managing active transportation, trails, or multimodal projects
- Strong understanding of current national and local guidelines, particularly for bicycle and pedestrian facilities
- Proficiency in GIS and/or transportation planning and analysis tools
- Experience preparing and reviewing technical reports, studies, and planning documentation
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting to clients, stakeholders, and public audiences
- Ability to work across multiple phases of planning projects
- Self-motivated with strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environmentÂ
- Â Experience with trail planning and design, including alignment development and user experience considerations
- Â Background in corridor planning, active transportation plans, or multimodal network development
- Â Experience working with state DOTs, MPOs, and/or local agencies
- Â Interest in innovative mobility solutions and emerging best practices in active transportation
- Â Experience supporting public involvement and stakeholder coordination
- Experience mentoring junior staff
