Job description

We are seeking a Junior Software Engineer for one of ourย PRIME CONTRACTS which offers exciting opportunities to support mission focused, enterprise geospatial products, services and systems across the enterprise. The program provides full life cycle support services through design, development, sustainment, and modernization of the agency's geospatial web services and tools. The program also supports commercial geospatial products including enterprise deployments, customizations and geospatial analyst support. These applications are used across the IC enterprise and are vital to its daily functions to support geospatial analysis and visualization. Currently, the program has over 42 staff with our entire team operating in Contractor facilities in the Annapolis Junction region.ย  ย 

Whatย You'llย Doย 

We'reย looking for a Software Engineerย who'sย lookingย to join a team focused on the development of geospatiallyย focused Java microservices. In this role,ย you'llย help createย containerizedย microservices that power advanced analytics, real-time data pipelines, and dynamic visualizations for mission-driven applications.ย This isย a great opportunityย if you enjoy turning complex dataย and problemsย into meaningfulย solutions.ย 

As part of our team,ย you'llย design,ย developย and deliver scalable Java-basedย microservices that process and analyze geospatial data,ย leveragingย both relational and NoSQL technologies. Your work will directly shape how critical decisions are made by transforming raw data into intuitive, actionable intelligence.ย 

Whatย you'llย do:ย 

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to translate complex requirements into technical solutionsย 
  • Build high-performance java microservices for geospatial analysis, visualization, and data processing
  • Develop resilient, scalable systems using modern design patterns and cloud architectures ย 
  • Integrate APIs and geospatial libraries to build capabilities ย 

Required:

  • TS/SCI with Polygraphย 
  • Noย demonstratableย experienceย requiredย 
  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. Four (4) years of additional experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.ย 
  • Understanding ofย Java programming language.ย 
  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git).ย 
  • Understanding ofย microservicesย architecture and design principles.ย 
  • Familiarity with relational and NoSQL databases and their interactions.ย 
  • Effective communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.ย 
  • Strong problem-solving skills, curiosity, and a willingness to learnย new technologiesย quicklyย 

Desired:

  • Familiarity with geospatial tools and libraries (e.g., GDAL,ย GeoTools) or a strong interest in learning geospatial technologiesย ย 
  • Foundational understanding of cloud platforms such as AWS and cloud-native development conceptsย ย 
  • Exposure to containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetesย ย 
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments, including participation in sprint ceremonies and team collaborationย ย
