Job description

This position blends hands-on Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) field leadership with foundational project management responsibilities, specifically supporting projects throughout Nevada, Utah, and the Western U.S. The SUE Field Supervisor supports the planning, execution, and delivery of SUE projects while actively supervising field crews and coordinating with internal project managers and clients in western markets. This role is intended as a developmental management position, bridging senior technical staff and project leadership, with a clear growth path toward full Project Manager responsibilities.

Project Support & Coordination

  • Support Project Managers with day-to-day project execution, including scope tracking, scheduling, and budget awareness.
  • Assist in the development and execution of project work plans, safety plans, and schedules.
  • Track field progress and communicate status updates, risks, and constraints to Project Managers.
  • Assist with project setup, documentation, and closeout activities.
  • Participate in internal project review meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Field Leadership & Technical Execution

  • Supervise and mentor SUE field crews, including 2- and 3-person teams, across Nevada, Utah, and surrounding western states.
  • Perform and oversee utility locating/designating using electromagnetic equipment, GPR, and vacuum excavation.
  • Operate and/or oversee the operation of vacuum excavation trucks and related equipment as required.
  • Review utility records, plans, and as-built drawings from western state, county, and municipal agencies; compare field data to design plans.
  • Ensure field sketches, photographs, and documentation are accurate, complete, and compliant with project requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with ASCE 38-22 guidelines and applicable Nevada, Utah, and Western municipal standards.

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce KCI safety policies and project-specific safety plans.
  • Assist with traffic control planning and implementation.
  • Identify safety hazards and implement corrective actions.
  • Conduct or assist with safety meetings and toolbox talks.

Client & Team Interaction

  • Serve as a secondary point of contact for clients under the direction of the Project Manager, with emphasis on public agencies and private clients in Nevada, Utah, and the Western U.S.
  • Participate in client meetings, site walks, and coordination calls as needed.
  • Foster a collaborative team environment and promote professional development of junior staff.

Education and/or Skills Required:

  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant work experience

Education and/or Skills Preferred:

  • Highschool Diploma/GED

Certificates, licenses, and/or Registrations Required:

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to maintain required certifications.
