What role you will play in our team

Join our team as a Sr. Tailings Engineer and shape the future of sustainable mining and water management. We have openings in both our Mid-Range and Long-Range Planning teams. 

Step into a high impact role where your expertise drives safe, innovative, and environmentally responsible mine operations. 

As a Sr. Tailings Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining tailings deposition plans, ensuring alignment with mine production schedules, geotechnical requirements, and regulatory frameworks. Working closely with Mine Planning, Geotechnical, Operations, and Closure teams, the Sr. Tailings Engineer evaluates scenarios, prepares detailed deposition schematics, and provides technical guidance to ensure operational execution matches planning intent.

What you will do

Key Responsibilities:

   Be a safety leader - support and adhere by all standards and producers and operate with safety as a value
   Develop tailings plans, ensuring alignment with mine production, dyke construction, and regulatory requirements
   Integrate tailings deposition strategies with mine sequencing, water management needs, and available storage capacity
   Prepare presentations, schedules, and visualizations for management and stakeholders 
   Provide leadership, coaching and mentoring to junior staff
   Provide technical support to field operations and contributes to continuous improvement of tailings planning processes, tools, and standards.

About you

Skills and Qualifications

   Bachelor's degree in Mining, Civil or Geological Engineering
   Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility with APEGA is required
   8+ years of experience in tailings engineering, planning, or operations
   Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication and coordination skills
   Highly motivated individual with ability to work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams

Preferred Qualifications/ Experience

   Oil sands tailings planning experience 
   Experience with Deswik and Muk3D would be an asset

Location:  Calgary, AB or Edmonton, AB

As part of Imperial's longterm business strategy, certain Calgarybased roles are expected to transition to Edmonton in or around 2028.
