Front End Engineer

Hubble Network

Seattle, WA • On-site

Full-time

Medical, Dental, Vision, PTO

Posted 15 days ago

Job description

Hubble Network was founded with the intention of delivering on the promise of what Internet-of-Things (IoT) was supposed to be. We're building a global Bluetooth® network dedicated to machine-to-machine connectivity. We differentiate ourselves as the first modem-less and gateway-less, direct-to-satellite network from off-the-shelf Bluetooth® Low Energy chips. Hubble is ideal for applications in logistics, AgTech, and maritime where economies of scale for volume consumer and enterprise asset tracking is a priority. Our goal is to be the first billion-endpoint-connected network in the world.
Hubble is an early-stage, venture-backed startup supported by some of the best investors in the world. In their previous lives, the founding team has been successful in raising $100s of millions in venture funding, developing the Amazon Sidewalk network, launching billions of dollars of space assets, and leading their teams to successful exits, both through acquisition and IPO. We are now looking to bring on talented team members who are the best at what they do to help us make Hubble a reality for the world.
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Front End Engineer to take ownership of our customer-facing platform. While the primary focus will be on frontend development, you will also engage with backend services as necessary. Collaborating closely with product, design, and platform teams, you will help create systems that are capable of scaling to millions of connected devices.
You will bring strong, experience-backed opinions to the table, constructively challenge assumptions, and prioritize product quality over rigid processes. You will have the autonomy to make architectural decisions and influence the evolution of our development practices. Additionally, you will work closely with our talented team in Poland to shape the direction and growth of our frontend and mobile applications.
We expect you to integrate AI agents into your workflow as a standard practice rather than a novelty. Successful engineers in this environment will leverage agentic tooling to delegate scoped work, critically review outputs, and accelerate shipping timelines without compromising quality.
Key Responsibilities
  • Own frontend architecture end-to-end: Define patterns, drive technical strategy, and make build-vs-buy decisions collaboratively with the team.
  • Build with AI agents: Utilize agentic coding tools to create, validate, and deploy features and internal tools. Understand their strengths and limitations while maintaining high quality and speed.
  • Stretch across the stack: While your primary focus will be on the frontend, you will also build and modify backend services (Python, Go) as required by features.
  • Design for scale: Create interfaces capable of handling real-time data from millions of IoT endpoints without sacrificing performance or user experience.
  • Own quality infrastructure: Establish testing pipelines, CI/CD processes, and quality gates that ensure reliability and velocity.
  • Partner cross-functionally: Collaborate effectively with backend, product, and design teams. Your insights will help shape product direction through a strong sense of craftsmanship.
  • Challenge and improve: Question existing methodologies, identify technical debt, and prioritize impactful initiatives.
  • Communicate clearly: Articulate technical trade-offs for non-technical stakeholders. Write RFCs and specifications that foster alignment.
Technical Requirements
Required
  • 5+ years of frontend development experience, with at least 2 years in a role focused on driving architecture.
  • Extensive expertise in React with TypeScript, possessing a deep understanding of React internals beyond just the API.
  • Full-stack experience: You have built or managed backend services in Python or Go and are comfortable working across boundaries rather than merely handing off tasks.
  • Fluency with AI agents in your workflow: You actively use agentic coding tools to deliver tangible results and have a perspective on their effectiveness.
  • System design for frontend: Proficient in state management at scale, caching, optimistic updates, and real-time data synchronization.
  • Performance engineering: You implement observability and have diagnosed and resolved production performance issues, considering bundle size, render cycles, and perceived latency.
  • API design collaboration: You have contributed to shaping APIs in partnership with backend teams to efficiently meet frontend requirements.
  • Testing philosophy: You understand when to apply unit, integration, or end-to-end testing, and have built testing infrastructure from the ground up.
  • Build and tooling: Possess a deep understanding of build pipelines, CI/CD, and developer experience. You have established quality gates that catch issues prior to production.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Architecture & Scale
  • Experience in building dashboards or applications that manage high-volume, real-time data.
  • Familiarity with micro-frontend architectures, module federation, or similar patterns for scaling frontend codebases.
  • Understanding of observability, including error tracking, performance monitoring, and user analytics.
  • Experience in designing systems at scale, including building and maintaining component libraries utilized across teams.

Nice-to-Have
  • Interest or experience in IoT, space systems, telemetry, or monitoring platforms.
  • Background in data visualization at scale.
  • Exposure to WebSockets, Server-Sent Events, or other real-time protocols.
  • Contributions to open-source projects or public technical writing.
What We Look For
Critical Thinking: You inquire "why" before "how" and critically assess requirements that lack clarity. You identify risks early and propose effective mitigations. You make informed decisions with incomplete information and adapt as you gather insights.
Partnership: You collaborate in a manner that elevates your colleagues. You build trust through transparency and follow-through. You engage in constructive disagreements and fully commit once a decision is reached. Your focus is on the product, not solely the code.
Ownership & Pragmatism: You have made architectural decisions that you later reconsidered, learning valuable lessons from them. You can simplify complex systems in both written and verbal communication. You discern when to build for the future and when to prioritize immediate shipping.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary: Commensurate with experience
  • Comprehensive benefits: Health, Dental, Vision, and HSA options
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Commuter benefits (if working from HQ)
  • Learning & Development allowance
  • Health & Wellness stipend
  • Sabbatical program
  • Work on state-of-the-art satellite systems

ITAR REQUIREMENTS
Hubble is mandated by the U.S. Government to adhere to various space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents ("green card holders") as defined by ITAR (22 CFR §120.15). More information on ITAR can be found here.
Hubble is dedicated to fostering a diverse environment and is proud to be an equal-opportunity employer. Every individual has the right to work in a professional environment that promotes equal employment opportunity and prohibits discriminatory practices, including harassment. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status.
