POSITION SUMMARY
TRABUS has an opportunity for a Senior UX/UI Engineer with Product Owner and project management experience. We are seeking an experienced design and product leader who can drive product strategy end-to-end, from user research and interface design through backlog management and delivery for data-intensive, AI/ML-enabled applications supporting critical Navy programs.
This is a senior-level role for someone who combines strong hands-on UX/UI expertise with the ability to own a product roadmap, manage stakeholders, and lead cross-functional teams.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Own and prioritize the product backlog; write user stories and acceptance criteria in collaboration with engineering leads and government stakeholders.
  • Lead requirements gathering, roadmap planning, and sprint execution across multiple concurrent efforts, acting as Product Owner/Project Manager for design and frontend initiatives.
  • Facilitate Agile activities, including sprint planning, backlog grooming, demos, and retrospectives, while managing schedules, risks, and deliverables.
  • Design, develop, and maintain responsive, accessible frontend interfaces using modern frameworks such as React, Vue, or Angular.
  • Conduct and synthesize user research, usability testing, and stakeholder feedback sessions to drive iterative UI/UX improvements.
  • Translate customer feedback, wireframes, and prototypes into production-ready frontend code and clear product requirements.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between design/engineering teams and government stakeholders, translating mission requirements into product roadmaps.
  • Mentor and provide technical and design direction to junior UI/UX and frontend engineers.
  • Develop and maintain component libraries and design systems to ensure UI consistency across products.
  • Collaborate with backend engineers to integrate APIs and ensure seamless data presentation across complex, data-intensive applications.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 5+ years of experience in frontend development using frameworks such as React, Vue, or Angular.
  • 3+ years of experience in a Product Owner, Project Manager, or similar product/technical leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience translating user research, customer interviews, or usability feedback into product strategy, roadmaps, and design/code changes.
  • Experience managing project schedules, resources, risk, and stakeholder communications, including with government customers.
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum frameworks and backlog management tools such as Jira or Azure DevOps.
  • 5+ years of experience with HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Experience with UX/UI design tools such as Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD.
  • Experience consuming RESTful or GraphQL APIs and integrating backend data into frontend applications.
  • Experience using CI/CD workflows and version control via GitHub, GitLab, or similar tools.
  • U.S. citizenship and the ability to maintain a final DoD-adjudicated Secret Clearance.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • PMP, CSPO, or CSM certification.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including experience presenting design rationale and roadmaps to non-technical and government stakeholders.
  • Experience leading or mentoring cross-functional design and engineering teams.
  • Familiarity with data visualization libraries such as D3.js, Chart.js, or similar.
  • Experience with cloud-deployed web applications on platforms such as AWS or DigitalOcean.
EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree (Master's degree preferred) in Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science/Engineering, Graphic Design, or another STEM- or design-related discipline.
