Leidos is seeking a motivated and intellectually curious Chinese Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) Analyst (Junior/Entry Level) to join the Halogen team under the Insight contract. This position supports research and analysis focused on Chinese military modernization, defense industry developments, emerging technologies, and related national security topics.
The selected candidate will conduct open-source research using Chinese- and English-language sources and produce structured analytical reports in response to customer-driven Requests for Information (RFIs). Products may range from quick-turn analytical responses to in-depth research reports. This position is ideal for early-career professionals eager to build expertise in open-source intelligence (OSINT), Chinese military affairs, defense technology, and strategic analysis while supporting mission-focused national security customers.
This position supports a mission-focused analytical team conducting research and reporting on topics relevant to national security and strategic competition. Analysts will work alongside experienced researchers and subject matter experts while developing professional writing, research, and analytical skills in an operational environment.
This position is fully remote (100% telework).
Primary Responsibilities
  • Conduct open-source research drawing primarily from Chinese- and English-language sources.
  • Identify, assess, and analyze information sourced from academic journals, government publications, corporate filings, media reports, technical literature, online databases, and social media platforms.
  • Perform targeted research on PRC military modernization, defense industrial developments, technology acquisition activities, military-civil fusion programs, and emerging technological trends.
  • Produce written analytical products formatted to professional intelligence reporting standards.
  • Translate and summarize Chinese-language content relevant to customer requirements.
  • Analyze collected information and synthesize key insights into clear and concise written assessments.
  • Evaluate the credibility of sources, corroborate findings across multiple independent sources, and identify existing intelligence gaps.
  • Respond to customer RFIs and recurring analytical taskings.
  • Maintain organized research processes, source documentation, and high standards of analytical accuracy.
  • Collaborate with senior analysts and project leadership on ongoing research initiatives.
  • Monitor developments related to PRC military modernization, defense industrial activity, aerospace systems, emerging technologies, and military-civil fusion efforts.

Required Qualifications
  • Education or Equivalent Experience: Bachelor's degree from an accredited university; relevant military experience in intelligence, all-source analysis, foreign area studies, language analysis, operations analysis, information operations, foreign and domestic Air Forces, targeting, or related specialties may substitute for formal education.
  • Relevant Experience: Demonstrated experience (up to two years) in research, analysis, intelligence, national security, China studies, journalism, public policy, or a related field. Internships, academic research, military experience, or early professional roles may count toward this requirement.
  • Communication & Analytical Writing: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise, and well-structured analytical products and organize complex information effectively.
  • Research & Learning Agility: Ability to rapidly learn unfamiliar technical subject matter, synthesize technical and non-technical information, conduct independent research using open-source, academic, technical, government, or foreign-language materials, and effectively utilize academic and research databases.
  • China Knowledge: Foundational understanding of PRC history, economics, foreign policy, and CCP politics.
  • Chinese Language Proficiency: Ability to read, comprehend, and analyze Chinese-language sources, including media, academic publications, government documents, and technical materials.
  • Professionalism & Teamwork: Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines independently while maintaining attention to detail, collaborating effectively with team members, and communicating professionally in a mission-focused environment.
  • US Citizenship Required

Recent graduates, current graduate students, veterans, and early-career professionals are encouraged to apply. Prior intelligence community experience, government service, security clearance, or military service is not required for consideration.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Relevant Academic Background: Academic training in international relations, political science, security studies, Chinese studies, history, engineering, military studies, or related fields.
  • OSINT Research & Analysis: Experience conducting open-source research and analysis using structured analytical methodologies and producing written analytical products.
  • China-Focused Research Skills: Experience utilizing Chinese-language primary sources, academic databases, technical journals, procurement records, government documents, or state media to support research and analysis.
  • Subject Matter Knowledge: Understanding of PRC military organizations, defense industry, emerging technologies, or military-civil fusion activities; familiarity with key U.S. government, defense, academic, and think tank institutions researching the PLA and PRC.
  • Analytical Writing Experience: Experience producing military-style written products, intelligence reports, operational assessments, staff papers, white papers, research papers, theses, or other structured analytical publications.
  • Professional or Military Experience: Prior military, intelligence, defense, government, internship, or coursework experience involving analytical writing, intelligence analysis, or China-related research.
  • Chinese Language Proficiency: Demonstrated proficiency through formal testing (e.g., HSK 6, DLPT 3/3, TOCFL Level 6, ACTFL Advanced Mid or higher) or equivalent academic, professional, or overseas experience.
