The Junior Electrical Estimator supports the estimating team by assisting with quantity takeoffs, bid preparation, pricing, data entry, and documentation. Works under the direction of the Chief Estimator and Sr. Estimators to help develop accurate, competitive electrical project estimates while actively building technical knowledge and estimating proficiency.

The Jr. Electrical Estimator owns the following five accountabilities:

  1. Quantity Takeoffs & Scope Review - Perform detailed quantity takeoffs using estimating software and construction drawings to support the estimating process. Review plans and specifications to identify scope, flag inconsistencies, and ensure takeoff accuracy.
  2. Bid Preparation & Data Entry - Compile and enter estimate data accurately into estimating software; prepare and organize bid packages for review. Assist in gathering pricing data, subcontractor quotes, and cost history to refine estimates.
  3. Vendor & Subcontractor Pricing - Request, track, and compile vendor and subcontractor quotes to ensure timely and complete bid coverage. Assist with pricing breakouts for addenda and estimate revisions as directed.
  4. Estimating Software Utilization- Develop and maintain proficiency in estimating software, spreadsheets, and databases to enhance accuracy and efficiency. Ensure data is entered consistently and supports system integrity across all active bids.
  5. Team Support & Learning - Work under the guidance of the Chief Estimator and Sr. Estimators to build knowledge in cost estimation, bid strategies, and industry best practices. Demonstrate initiative, reliability, and a commitment to growing toward full estimator capability.

Core Responsibilities


  1. Participate with the estimating team to determine project bid strategies, pursuit approach, and techniques.
  2. Review proposal specifications, drawings, and construction documents to determine scope of work and required estimate contents.
  3. Analyze and interpret all construction documents (electrical, mechanical, civil, architectural, specifications) to accurately quantify all electrical scope items.
  4. Perform detailed material and labor takeoffs for assigned scope.
  5. Accurately input all relevant takeoff information into estimating software.
  6. Request, track, and compile vendor and subcontractor pricing to support timely and complete bid coverage.
  7. Assist with pricing breakouts for addenda and estimate revisions under direction.
  8. Prepare complete, well-organized bid packages and ensure all documentation and requirements are met before the given deadline.
  9. Maintain estimating logs including scope issues, pricing status, and outstanding items as assigned.
  10. Compile actual cost data for historical estimating reference.
  11. Maintain files of working documents as backup for estimate figures, including current pricing from suppliers.
  12. Assist in preparation of proposal and scope of work letters and RFP response packages.
  13. Attend weekly estimating/sales meetings to discuss bid status and present/solve problems.
  14. Attend project and coordination meetings as needed to support estimating and scope clarification.
  15. Learn and understand the National Electric Code to support drawing review for accuracy and completeness.
  16. Learn, follow, and provide input on estimating department strategies and processes on every project.
  17. Track required bidding and sales metrics to support the overall estimating scorecard.
  18. Communicate effectively with office personnel, engineers, architects, general contractors, customers, and team members.
  19. Anticipate potential problems; take proactive action before issues escalate.
  20. Establish and maintain high performance and quality standards.
  21. Is a team player — a positive, well-organized, proactive force to support the profit and growth of the company.
  22. Perform other duties, tasks, and special projects as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

      Experience & Technical Skills:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree or equivalent electrical field experience preferred
  • 0–2 years of experience in construction estimating or a related field; electrical industry knowledge preferred
  • Basic computer and math skills required; proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Bluebeam & blueprint reading experience preferred
  • Experience with estimating software (e.g., Accubid, Livecount) preferred
  • Working knowledge of construction principles, cost accounting, and procurement practices preferred
  • Working knowledge of the National Electric Code preferred
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
  • Ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Team-oriented, adaptable, and eager to learn
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test, background check, and reference check
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and reliable transportation

This job requires frequent sitting, often working on a computer. Due to computer usage, repetitive motions of the hands, fingers and wrists may occur.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., 40 hours per week. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
