Junior Electrical Design Engineer Material Handling Control Systems


Location: Wall Township, NJ (On-Site)

Compensation: $60,000 $80,000 annually, commensurate with experience

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated Junior Electrical Design Engineer to join our growing engineering team specializing in control systems for material handling and conveyor applications. This is a great opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career engineer to develop their electrical design skills in a structured, project-driven environment alongside experienced engineers.

In this role, you will support the development of electrical design packages including schematics, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and Bills of Materials using AutoCAD Electrical. You will receive direct guidance from senior engineers while taking on increasing responsibility as your skills grow. A strong foundation in electrical fundamentals, a sharp eye for detail, and a desire to learn industrial design practices are the keys to success here.


Key Responsibilities


Electrical Schematic Design

  • Assist in the development of electrical design packages including power distribution one-line diagrams, motor control schematics, I/O wiring diagrams, and field device wiring details using AutoCAD Electrical
  • Produce panel layout drawings including din rail arrangements, wire duct routing, terminal block assignments, and enclosure configurations under the direction of senior engineers
  • Maintain drawing numbering, revision logs, and project drawing registers
  • Perform self-verification checks on completed drawings prior to senior review


BOM & Documentation Support

  • Assist in developing Bills of Materials (BOMs) for control panels and field instrumentation based on design specifications and component libraries
  • Support purchasing and fabrication teams by organizing drawing packages and responding to basic drawing questions
  • Assist in maintaining as-built drawing packages upon project completion
  • Help prepare Description of Operation (DOO) documents and other project deliverables under senior engineer direction


Standards & File Management

  • Follow internal electrical design standards, schematic templates, title block conventions, and component libraries within AutoCAD Electrical
  • Manage project drawing files within Autodesk Vault, including check-in/check-out, revision control, and folder organization
  • Flag design questions or discrepancies to senior engineers promptly


Learning & Development

  • Develop familiarity with applicable electrical codes and standards including NEC (NFPA 70), NFPA 79, and UL 508A
  • Build working knowledge of industrial control system components PLCs, VFDs, motor starters, safety relays, photoelectric sensors, and proximity switches
  • Actively participate in design reviews and internal engineering meetings to build project and product knowledge


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology (BSEET), or closely related field
  • 02 years of professional experience in electrical design or industrial automation; internship or co-op experience in a relevant field is a plus
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD Electrical or demonstrated ability to learn it quickly; coursework or personal project experience accepted
  • Basic understanding of electrical fundamentals circuits, power distribution, motor control, and wiring practices
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, organized work
  • Ability to follow established design standards and take direction from senior engineers
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills


Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with AutoCAD Electrical through coursework, internship, or professional work
  • Exposure to industrial control system components such as PLCs, VFDs, contactors, or field sensors
  • Familiarity with Autodesk Vault or other document management systems
  • Basic understanding of control panel construction standards (UL 508A) or electrical codes (NEC)
  • Any exposure to conveyor systems, material handling equipment, or parcel handling applications
  • Familiarity with Allen-Bradley / Rockwell Automation hardware


Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Primarily office-based design role
  • Occasional visits to panel fabrication facilities or customer sites for design verification (minimal travel)
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods during design work
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs
